replacing sounds on drumkit - help!
Hi
I'm using Drumagog to replace the sounds of a live drum track I recorded. I miked a snare and kick track seperately, w/ an overhead track seperate as well. I used the stock Digi gate to process the snare and kick tracks, to cut out the leakage on each track so all I have are the kick and snare on each track. So I loaded the kick track into Sound Forge, opened Drumagog, and loaded WAV kick samples off the ProSamples East/West Pure Drums CD. BUT - The gate isn't there on the track, Drumagog is picking up all the leakage. I reprocessed it, same deal.I should just have the "effected" track, right?? But it's tracking as the pre-effected track (picking up the snare AND kick leakage, which I thought I cut out permanently processing the track with the DIGI gate) I thought if I processed an audio track, the plugin would permanently alter it. I shouldn't have the leakage...or does it not permanently change the audio file and I dont hear it unless I open the file in Pro Tools....?? I'm confused, any help would be appreciated. Thanks PS Drumagog is the poor mans version of Sound Replacer for those that don't know, they basically are the same program. Thanks P |

Re: replacing sounds on drumkit - help!
Hmmm... it depends on how you're "processing" the file.
Here's what I'd suggest. Make a COPY of the file you want to process, and then use the AUDIOSUITE (NOT RTAS) to process the file with a Gate. Then open it in Sound Forge and it should be fine. You don't NEED to perform the modifications to a copy of the file, but I do prefer to work on a copy when I am doing any destructive operations on it.

Hey Paul
If you used the plug-in on a track insert(RTAS) then you are not changing the wave file. It would be as if you were running the track thru an outboard gate.Audiosuite plug-ins are used to create new wave files or change the original file with the desired effect.Did you use the Digi gate as an RTAS or Audiosuite? |

Re: replacing sounds on drumkit - help!
I feel your pain. I had a similar problems that i was able to fix with soundreplacer.
http://duc.digidesign.com/cgi-bin/ub...;f=32;t=009219 The method i used to extract the base from the rest was to eq it like crazy. Lowcut and highcut filters to remove the snare-drum from the base, and added +12 db or something in the 40 hz range to really have it sticking out. Then take that track and process it. Since it is really replacing the sound, you do not need a nice track to work with. Just a track that has the drums you want very very obvious with the attack realy realy strong on it. That's about it. After i replaced the drums, i really zoomed in on the newly created track, to check the phase. Then i took the newly recorded basedrum, snare, hi-tom and lowtom, and mixed the overhead's with it. I applied a lowcut filter on the overheads to remove more of the old drums. I liked the result very much! Soundreplacer has a 14 day demo, and you can download a demo right here. Its made by digidesign. If you choose to use your program to process the track, be sure to set the treshold right, maybe even edit out some really loud unwanted sounds. Also compare the files once you processed them, because processing files with rtas or audiosuite plugins will induce some latency. Just zoom in really really close, and slide the new track on its good place.

Re: replacing sounds on drumkit - help!
i downloaded the demo of drumagog, and i think you dont have to pre-process the file. Just play around with the sensitivity and low-pass controls on the main-page. I must say i am very impressed by this demo. Its a pitty it isnt an rtas or audiosuite plugin, but thats understandable....if the allow this one to be an rtas plugin......digidesign wouldnt sell soundreplacer anymore... Oh...thanx for pointing me to this plugin! even though its directx.
