Dropped notes, sustain problems, random notes
Hello all,
I am using a Yamaha S80 synth through the new Avid Mbox 003. I am attempting to record a very basic piano piece using PT 8.0.4's "Mini Grand". My problem is that I occasionally get dropped notes and sometimes the sustain pedal doesn't seem to work (comes off too early or doesn't trigger at all). Earlier today, I also got a random note that just started playing way up high on the keyboard. So, I'm like WTF? I can't really run a recording session with these problems. Any advice for general MIDI troubleshooting? My OS is Mac OS X 10.6.6 on a brand new iMac, so I don't think it's anything major. Feedback is greatly appreciated, Marc |

Re: Dropped notes, sustain problems, random notes
FYI, I discovered what was causing this... The Yamaha S80 synth sends MIDI clock messages when it is in its default config. I think this is because of the arpeggiator in the synth. This was effectively flooding the MIDI channel to the point where messages were getting lost.
Anyway, I disabled the SeqCtrl in MIDI setup and viola... MIDI works perfectly. Just thought others might benefit from this information... PS - MIDI Monitor was how I discovered what was going on behind the scenes. It's a great utility. |

Re: Dropped notes, sustain problems, random notes
Thanks so much. I have a kx88 routing through 003 to a motif xs and have experienced similar problems with phantom notes, notes sustaining, ..etc. Much improved since turning off the sequencer control *off* on the motif. Thank you.

Re: Dropped notes, sustain problems, random notes
Thanks I have been going crazy BC there is two measures in a song that have no midi notes recorded but the bass notes get stuck there every time. I have a Yam Es90. Im sure this is the issue. I will give it a try...
