Eric, I see you are on Leopard - so make sure the CoreAudio manager is not set to the Digidesign interface.

We're working on a solution, but this workaround should do it.

Hope this helps...

I strongly appreciate this response from home base. Thanks.

I have the Digi interface selected for when ProTools is closed so that iTunes and QuickTime can use the interface, but I was pretty sure that it switched OFF of the Digi interface when ProTools is open. I'll double check that.

While ProTools was open I checked the Sound preference and it was indeed set to internal, NOT Digi, but video was still delayed.

I closed ProTools, opened the Sound preference and set it to Internal (it had gone back to Digi automatically after I quit ProTools) then opened ProTools. This time video played correctly. Very quick.

So the fix is that you have to set the Sound preference to something other than Digi BEFORE opening ProTools, at least in my case.

This is pretty annoying. Any ETA on the fix for this?

Any news on when we can expect a fix on this Digi?

No news yet - we are working with Apple to get this addressed, but it's difficult to give a specific date for a fix at this point, given the focus on the upcoming Leopard release for LE and HD on other machines besides the Mac Pro.

Agreed - the workaround works, but is annoying. I often forget to make the switch before opening large sessions and have to close them down, switch the sound preference, then reopen.

Thanks for the response Digi - while not ideal, it does work.

So it is October now...and the Quicktime error is still not fixed. How are we doing with this Digi? thanks.

i.e. CoreAudio is set to Digi when PT is not open, affecting the playback of quicktime video files while in PT sessions when it is open. Delay of start by about 3 seconds or so...per this forum.

It looks like this is going to have to be fixed in a Core Audio update - unfortunately I don't have specifics about when that may be available yet.

My friend had this problem and we were able to fix it by simply changing the output in the sound System Preferences to Line Out.
Hope this helps.

changing default output to line out (anything but Digidesign HW (HD)

then it will be snappy again when you hit play ..
