Default Can you run 2 different DAWs on 2 different computers and link them up?

Can you run Pro Tools on 1 computer and Native Instruments Maschine on the other, and link them up so that the computer with Maschine plays the track and the computer with Pro Tools records?

Yes, you can.

You will need to have MIDI output from the ProTools machine to the other computer, and send MTC (Midi Time Code) along with Midi Clock (tempo) so they sync together.

Cheers

Is this a common practice to maintain cpu load?

You can run them on the same computer if it's beefy enough ... SMPTE is your friend.

i also tried to use PT and Live with success (his internal max stuff is essential) PT master send midi beat clock with IAC bus to Live (slave), Live audio out digital into the in digital of the 192, just play PT and record! No huge cpu power (depend how many things u want load into Live or Logic or whatever) and it's pretty in sync with master app....hope it's clear!

PS here a Mac Pro 8 cores!

Hey, I was wondering about the same thing

I want my MASTER to be---- Pro tools 10 on 27inch iMac with Digi 003
I want my SLAVE to be ----- Abelton Live 9 on Macbook pro with Akai MPC Renaissance. (MPC is interface for Abelton/macbook ,I run Stereo out from MPC into Digi 003)

I do this because all my vsts are on my macbook 13in
but i prefer to cut vocals in pro tools 10.

I like to cut vocals and edit the beat back and forth, so if they were syncd up
i could make that happen without printing 2 tracks over and over..
It would just make my workflow and arrangements better.

any ideas how to make this happen?

Well, you could run them on the same machine and just use ReWire.

To run on different machines and sync, check this link and scroll down to the section labeled "Synchronizing Live to an external sequencer". https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/...ing-live-midi/

Years ago I got Saw Pro (remember THAT one??) to sync to Pro Tools 5.x on Win 98SE, using nothing but two MIDI cables. Shouldn't be a problem at all.
