Default Blue arrow in timeline

I was having trouble with punch in due to the cursor starting to record right away instead of waiting until the selected punch in area. Now somehow a blue arrow has appeared in the timeline allowing me to back up the cursor and starting it without recording, which is great! but i like to click in the regions to go forward and backward at other times, but now i cannot, i'm forced to go to the timeline above and have to select where i'm going, can someone tell me how to deselect the blue arrow! i have the 110 book and cannot find anything about a blue arrow.

I think the blue arrow you are talking about (more of a triangle) is the play start marker.

"Dynamic Transport" is what enables it to be different from the timeline selection. The "Link Timeline and Edit Selections" option also plays into how things function. When you first enable Dynamic Transport, loop play is enabled and timeline and edit selections are unlinked. You can then reset those options however you want.

If you like to select regions to control your playback point, I think you will want DT off, and edit/timeline linked

I was able to get the blue start marker to go away through the Dynamic Transport, but i think i will use the start marker when doing record punch in, it seems to work for me, but when i tried to bring back the start marker and use it for record punch in, it would start recording right away when i backed up for pre roll. I have tried every combination i can think of including "pre roll" record loop" etc.... Is there a certain combination of things that have to be "checked" in order for the blue start marker to act as a pre roll before punch in starts

If you have DT on, then when you make a selection to define your record range, you still have to move/place the start marker to where you want it. You have to have a selection in the timeline.. If timeline and edit are linked, then clicking a region will create your selection and then you need to click somewhere in the Play Start Marker lane to move it.
