Default ProTools 12 Native, a local USB Audio Interface and Dante DVS

Folks,
First, I will just say that I am NOT a ProTools user. I work with it because of client needs.

That being said, be aware I am not very familiar with the ins and outs of PT nor the I/O structure and Playback Engine interface.

What we are trying to accomplish:
We are trying to do a live mix for broadcast of Dante delivered content to PT 12.

What I cannot figure out is how to monitor the live mix of the Dante delivered content through the attached PreSonus Audiobox USB device. It appears this is just an impossible configuration for ProTools to manage. I tried aggregating the I/O but that did not appear to function although I had no idea what I was doing.

If I am wrong in this assessment, please let me know. If I am correct, what can I do to make this happen.

My thought is to purchase something along the lines of a Focusrite AM2 and address the I/O via Dante to that. Is that viable?

Your ideas and input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
mITc

I'm guessing you are running a Mac computer?(Windows machines cannot run aggregate). To make an Aggregate IO setup, the Dante needs to connect to the computer, directly. Then you should be able to combine the Dante and the AudioBox in an Aggregate setup. I may be wrong on this, but I was under the impression that there was a software solution that would allow Dante to connect to the Mac's Ethernet port?

Dave,
Thanks for the response. I should have stated it was on a Mac. One of the latest and greatest Macs too.

I tried the aggravating Aggregate option and while the USB device could be aggregated it did not show up when mapping outputs. It's Dante or USB, apparently not both.

Are you choosing your Aggregate device in Pro Tools? If you have another input/output USB devices hooked up to the computer, Pro Tools may be defaulting to this device for its I/O.

Do you mean selecting it in the Playback Engine?

I have successfully aggregated Dante Virtual Sound Card and a USB interface doing a similar thing as you, but I had some oddities as to which device was listed first in the aggregate device. If I remember correctly in order to get it to work right I had to list the USB device as the first in the aggregate device, and DVS as the second.
