Default Mbox Pro (3rd gen) "unable to locate digidesign hardware"

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
Mac OS X Ver. 10.6.8

Hello,

I just bought an Mbox pro (3rd gen) I'm running Protools 8.0.4 with all the Mbox pro (3rd gen) drivers installed, after a good 2 hours of troubleshooting...my mac, PT8 or Mbox DSP/mixer don't seem to recognized the hardware "unable to locate digidesign hardware".

I was previously running a 003r set up with no issues and a friend was kind enough to lend me his mbox (usb) and it worked like a charm. I uninstalled and re-installed PT 8.0.4 including drivers ( I haven't updated anything from avid yet--- need support first ) and I don't know what else I can do, my mac should be compatible according to avid. I did buy this Firewire cable today http://www.long-mcquade.com/products...able_6_Pin.htm ----- could the cable be a problem??

I would appreciate if someone could help.

Thanks,

Gus.

I forgot to mention, I noticed when I turn on the unit it takes maybe 8-10 seconds for the LED light to come on... Is this normal??

Thanks again.

The mbox 3 pro should come with an included FW cable. Why not use that?

The delayed startup is normal

This is a used unit and didn't come with a cable. I do see a signal going through the LED lights when I connect my outboard preamp + mic on inputs 1-4... but no signal on computer yet.

I hope you were able to test it before you bought it. The delayed start is normal. After installing Pro Tools, install the mbox drivers and perform the necessary reboots, shut down the computer and be sure your mbox is connected and turn that on first, wait a few and then turn on your imac. Also when launching Pro Tools see if holding the "n" while on the splash screen loads the H/W setup so you can set that manually.

The FireWire cable should not break functionality of the mbox, I use a 14FT Belkin cable for mine. Be sure to uninstall other un-needed device drivers. Be sure that in your apple preferences that your mbox is selected. Does it work with other apps Like iTunes, etc..?

i just tried pt 8.0.5 with no luck, also the pt 8 DVD installs all drivers for all the avid/digidesign interfaces without the option of choosing. i haven't tried itunes yet.

update !!

Just got the Mbox working, it was the firewire cable i was using, I replace this with a 400/800 cable... works good.

I hope this helps others, I'll post my impressions coming a previous owner of a 002r and 003r.

Thanks guys.
