Default Massey L2007 Mastering Limiter

Hey guys, just thought i would put the word out Steven Massey, he has released a new plugin, very nice mastering limiter, with 4 different modes of operation. definatly worth checking out at his website www.masseyplugins.com and seems like a steal for $89

(and no i'm not affiliated with him! just like what he does)

I really like the 'Vibrant' mode. Thumbs up for Mr. Massey.

I'll third this. His plugins are fantastic, and the mastering limiter is the best I've tried. And they're TDM..and cheap! Who'd of thought it possible?!

Compared to the Oxford Limiter, L2, or TC Brickwall in MD3?

Being so cheap I wasn't expecting much, but I gotta say I'm REALLY impressed with this. Used mildly it sounds great, and even when I dropped the threshold to the floor it stayed surprisingly hi-fi. It's a bit early to say for sure, but this could become my favorite limiter.

Has anybody compared TapeHead to... say Phoenix or Analogue Channel?
If you have, how does it compared?

Should I pay 500 bucks for phoenix or 69 for the Tape Head?

I'd check out tapehead first and see if you like what it does. I was skepticle, but I ended up loving it. I always feel like those kinds of processors just kind of "raise the level" and fake you into thinking it's better because it's louder, but Massey knows what he's doing and seems to be very musical. I just downloaded his demos tonight and played with them a bit. Tapehead is pretty amazing IMO. It's much more colored than Phoenix, but I think that may be a good thing. I'm still trying to get the hang of Phoenix. I don't know if Tapehead completely nails tape (it's been too long since I "booted" by JH-24), but it definately gives color and greases it up. It was absolute magic on lead guitar recorded digitally (duh) in PT. Absolutely loved it. I'm sure I will end up buying all his plug ins. The compressor works great as well - and again I level matched to get a real world idea of exactly what's happening. I'd highly recommend either. Can't wait to try his EQ and mastering limiter.

Bill

$69 for TapeHead is a no-brainer. . . I have all 3 (Phoenix, Analaog Channel and TapeHead) and also use Lo-Fi a lot as well. TapeHead is a lot more agressive than Phoenix, and tends to fatten and not get as gritty as Lo-Fi. I tend to like TapeHead, in some of the situations that I used to use Lo-Fi, such as certain individial tracks I wish to get a more saturated sound, like BG Vocals, Kick, Snare or a Clean guitar that needs a little cloud on it. Phoenix is great, but I tend to use Phoenix when I am looking for a smoother sound or on Busses. . . they are all useful depending on what your are looking for, mind you I have not used analog Channel for a long time now. Smack! can do some cool semi-saturated sounds are well. . . There is no one magic pill. . . just buy lots of plugins so the developers can pay their bills and create more for us!

I suggest Massey get iLok in place for his Plugins. . .

I found it very, very coloured even when no limiting is taking place.

But it works if you like the colouration. I didn't.
