Hi, this is mac only yes? If i stay with mac i am interested, and i will make the final decision once and for all whether i am moving to windows by the weekend.

What size is the fan?

Can i use a noctua fan with the ultra low noise resistor? Is it just a normal fan connector?

How noise are HDX cards inside it?

I suppose if i only want 2 HDX cards, or 1 HD native if i go that way, I could use the extra ports to add more USB? It's compatible with any mac OS compatible pcie card?

Cheers!

Mac and Win Compatible

HDX2 might be a little bit louder, with 1 and another USB 3 card in there....it wasn’t bad

I didn’t have it sitting on the desktop right beside me either....

It doesn’t have to be....

Will get you those pics of the fan in a few minutes

ok so it's a 3 pin connector but avid say you have to set it at full speed for it to work with HDX.. do the HDX cards somehow know when it's not?

My thinking is, i get a noctua with the ULN resistor between it and the on board fan connector of hte magma, so even if i set the jumper to max speed, it still can't supply more, as the noctua resistor will actually limit what the fan receives.. so even if the magma sends 12v, the noctua will give it 7 (i won't put it on the 5V setting, i find the 7v resistor to be a perfect compromise).

And likely the noctua will have just as good airflow on low as the included fan does on high..

I see tons of dust there on the fan, has that not made it into the internals or have you blown it off?

The internals look clean at least in the pics.

This is only really relevant for me if i decide on an imac pro instead of the windows box.. if i build a win desktop i'll put the PCI internally of course :)

I might look into iso boxes made specifically for the magma, i am sure they exist, then everything can be at full blast and so can the hdx fan and i won't care.. I can't make a decision right now on the spot is what i am saying, i have to do some research, including the price in australia shipped for a new one.
But i WILL let you know ASAP i promise!
Cheers!

Yeah the dust is included free!!

Did avid really say they required that extra card? I don’t remember reading that. I don't believe they require it.....

But like I said I had it under my desk, so I left the extra blower fan in there.....
