I doubt they'll do a cheap upgrade.

Technically you could buy a new MBox from Sweetwater for $250 and for 100 more get PT9 AND the MBox - so I doubt they would do that.

I could be wrong.

I'm looking forward to using PT9, it's just do I pay the $249 (which isn't a problem if that's what it is) or do I pay $99 (registered a new Mbox3 in Oct) and have some cash left over for a few nights out down the pub !

Cheerio

If you get and answer would you please come back and paste it here. Thanks so much! Here is to few nights at the pub!

I wouldn't be holding off if there wasn't confusion about it. But seeing as how yes, I did just buy some of their new hardware (not just recently bought some old overstock) AND I am a small business guy, I have to make the smartest money moves I can. If I can save $150, I'm gonna do it. It's not being cheap, it's being smart.

Guys - the price is $249.
Pro Tools 9 is not an upgrade from Pro Tools 8, it's a new product (software only version of Pro Tools).

Doesn't matter if you bought an Mbox, 003, Mini ... they all ship with PTLE 8 and you can crossgrade it for $249.

If you purchased HD (Native or TDM) since OCT. 4th then you'll get PT9 for free.

But the reason we're asking is because Max Gutnik mentioned the $99 upgrade in the live video event at AES.

He may have been wrong, but some people want to wait and find out for sure, before they possibly spend $150 more than they need to.

not to mention the first guy originally said "free" and then Max corrected him. not like Mr Gutnik said "no, sorry. it's $250 for LE hardware all around. HD is free."

the faq that mentions no free upgrade also doesnt mention hardware, so it only furthers the confusion.

if they come out and say "sorry, our bad. its $250", then cool. but im not gonna rush and spend $150 i may not have to.

Yep, I'm holding out for the final verdict on this also. There's really no reason why we shouldn't be squared away with this very soon (seeing were fast approaching the new work week). I think we should hold 'em to that $99 claim seeing they said so in the press conference

Q: If I buy a Pro Tools LE system now—or just purchased one—am I entitled to a free crossgrade to Pro Tools 9?
A: Because Pro Tools 9 is a new Pro Tools product and not an upgrade version of Pro Tools LE, we will not be offering any free crossgrades to Pro Tools 9.

The cost is $99 if you bought after Oct 4.

Here is the link to the AES presser www.avid.com/buzz
Go to the end and you will hear about the $99 offer. First that say free, then they correct it to $99.

Somewhere else I have read that the 99.00 figure is for recent MPTK purchasers.

As stated the new work week should hopefully sort this out.

A: Yes. If you purchased and registered any toolkit on or after October 4, 2010, you are eligible to receive a free crossgrade to Pro Tools 9 software. If you registered your toolkit purchase within this timeframe, you’ll automatically receive an email with a free activation code and link to download Pro Tools 9.
Free, not $99. And I wouldn't guess that the anyone that recently bought a toolkit has not gotten an email yet.
