Default Re: Anyone using SSD for their primary record drives?

I've had four different SSDs. All of them were fast as hell. The best one i had, a Crucial 512 GB model, was absolutely RAM-fast.

However, of the four SSDs I've had, three of them failed with use. The fourth is in my almost-new MB Air so jury's out on it.

SSDs degrade with time and IMO the MTBF numbers reported are misleading, because it greatly matters what you're doing with them. Just reading data? No problems. Rewriting data? You're screwed.

Having said all that, I've never used one as a primary audio drive (largely because

1. The cost is prohibitive per MB
2. No need, as my 7.2K drives support all the audio I use
3. Personal history of being failure prone

It's true that SSDs degrade as they are rewritten, and mostly, you don't rewrite the audio on an audio drive, you just re-read it.

But you do rewrite your filesystem data. A lot. And that's what always fails on mine.

I personally would stick with spinners unless you simply require SSD speed for your workflow.
