Can you return it? If you get 30 days I would get it, remove the bloat, do ALL the optimizations here, load on PT and see how you get on. If it works, keep it. It sucks, take the Dell back to factory and return it.

I5 will work, I7 is better. I would check and see if the motherboard/chipset will accept an upgrade processor in case you need more power later. You will want to make sure to use SSD system drive and high speed or (best)SSD audio drive. I'm using a quad core I7 in my desktop, but I also have PT Native on two laptops, one I7 and one I5. The I5 runs a few less tracks/plugins but laptop processors are more limited that desktops so unless you are doing large sessions/ a lot of video editing/ a lot of VI's you may never notice any problems if you do all the optimizations , etc

I've been running PT HD on an XPS15 9650 i7 for a year now as a mobile rig with an Apollo Duo MKII and an MBox3 Pro. While this is more of a "scratch pad" rig for me, I have at times finished entire projects just on the laptop instead of dumping them to my larger HD rig. I've mixed a few docs and spots on it as well in a pinch and it worked just fine. At high buffer settings it can nearly hang with my slightly older i7 3930k 6 core workstation. At lower buffer settings, not so much... but certainly usable. I would absolutely wipe it and remove the bloatware. Also, make sure you are on the latest bios, networking, and thunderbolt drivers... the original shipped configuration was a dog and completely unusable for daw work until the newer drivers and bios arrived. Good luck!

Thanks so much... I just find out XPS 15 9750 (2018) 6 cores will ship soon. but the 9650 with 32 gig RAM ,1T is on sales for $2200. Thinking to wait more or buy the 9650 now..
