bounce to disc no highlights

ok so either I'm nuts or.... It used to be when I bounced to disc I could see all my tracks highlight as I move selector tool over the timeline. I tend to record shows and may have over an hour of music, so I'd mix and select that one song to bounce. Now, I see no tracks highlighted, just horizontal red lines where the area is I'm bouncing, that is the beginning and end of my selection. I just don't know what has changed?
I drag the select tool over timeline as always. Now, if highlight all the tracks, with just the section I want to bounce, the entire deal bounces, not just the highlighted area.

AFAIK, if you don't solo the tracks you want or mute the ones you don't all of your mix will be bounced out for the highlighted section. Is this what you mean/
