Exclamation Neumann M149 Tube ... is this normal ?

Hi , I purchased an used Neumann M149 today and it's under hard testing ...

When I change polar patterns to the right side I hear five broken fffffff sound
( like 5 seconds ) and then silent and ready to use , and when i change to left side patterns i hear a ffffff long sound ( not broken ) for 5 seconds and again ready to use ! I bought it a little cheap and I'm searching for the answer of this lower price ...

is this ffffffff sound normal on changing the patterns ... ?

Thank You All .

You might want to go to the Sennheiser website and ask tech support there. In any case, I know that some microphones will make noises when switching patterns so its best to mute that input. The real question is; how does the mic SOUND?

Yes the "sound of the ocean" is normal on the M149 when changing patterns....that is the sound of the rear capsule heating up. Relax it only lasts a few seconds and goes away.

Thanks for your responses friends ,

I Asked tech support about the noise and they said it's normal .

Do you know about the new tube that neumann is using on last generation of M149 TUBE ?
8254 (1st Gen.)----> 6111 (2nd Gen. )----> ???? ( they have erased the spec. from tube glass )

Best Regards ,
Barbad Khakpoor
