Avid Says MT Lion and 2008 mac pro not supported??

I wish Avid would state why the older mac pro 2008 is not compatible with Mt Lion and I guess Pro tools 10.3. I currently have Pro Tools 10.2 running with MT 10.8.1

What is new about 10.3 anyway.... just thunderbolt compatibility or is there
more, I can't find any other info. I am not going to update as there is no need but just wondering if this is the end of the road for support of my mac pro.

Here is Avid's info below which I find a bit vague.

Pro Tools Version 10.3 is an officially qualified and recommended installer for:

Pro Tools systems on Mac OS X 10.6.7 - 10.8*

*Mac OS X 10.8 support for Nehalem (4,1) and higher Mac Pro computers

The last bit is what I would like more information on...

Apple states MT Lion is compatible with "Mac Pro (Early 2008 3,1 or newer)" so I don't get what Avid is stating here.

Anybody have insite to this? Maybe Avid just made a mistake of which macs pros are compatible with MT Lion.

This is beyond silly, c'mon Avid how about rewording the release notes to avoid these silly confusions and upset customers for just no reason (except poor/unclear writing style).

10.3 is compatible from 10.6.7 and up. Period.

Thanks for the clarification, I would like to see Avid correct this on there compatibility page. Are there any fixes aside from MT Lion and Thunderbolt being supported with PT 10.3?

I looked at the read me file that comes with the installer but it is just the what's new with PT10 read me file, it's same that came with earlier versions, there does not seem to be any other info on the update.
Guess I will just do a full system drive clone tonight and then install 10.3 and see how she runs.
I have been getting pops at the end of my recorded clips unless I set DC to short, then they go away. Hopefully this will be fixed with 10.3 as some other folks seem to have the issue, and no one seems to know what causes it.

A new preference has been added on the MIDI pane under Delay for External Devices: Notes and Controllers. When enabled, Pro Tools applies Delay Compensation to MIDI notes and MIDI controller data. This is helpful when monitoring external MIDI devices outside of Pro Tools.
Control Surfaces
The handling of ICON-specific session data has been optimized to improve performance of the Save Session command. (PTSW-164767)
On ICON worksurfaces, the LFE channel is available in 5.1 mode on the touchscreen surround panner. (PTSW-136779)

Video and Synchronization

Pro Tools stops sending timecode when a played selection ends. Devices receiving timecode stop correctly when Pro Tools stops. (PTSW-151199)

I'm convinced the issue mainly stems from a particular set of errors that many of us using a Harpertown 2008 Mac were and are having with an HD Native card. For many many many months Avid has been unable to squash the bug. It remains to this day. 10.3 didn't fix it.

So the cynic in me believes they just dropped support for the Harpertown because they can't make ProTools with with it, with an HD Native card. Now they have the out of saying 'well that's not a supported system'.

There should be no other reason they would do that.

By the way, 10.3 is working 100% fine on my Harpertown, now that I've changed from an HD Native and Omni to a MOTU 828 Firewire interface. Most stable system I've had in years.
