Default Digi - How 'bout an 8.0.3 step by step...

First of all, I thought you guys had gone to an "update software" menu item with version 8. Guess that doesn't work with the latest 900+mb Win7 "patch"...or maybe you're just not updating via the software for a beta version...don't know, but it sure makes it simpler. So how about a simple step-by-step for the 8.0.3 update. I tried the following with minimal luck after a clean Win7 Home Premium 64 bit upgrade:
  • Loaded 8
  • Didn't plug 002 in when prompted for drivers
  • Loaded 8.0.3
  • Didn't plug 002 when prompted for drivers
  • Loaded 8.0.4b drivers
PT8.0.3 fires up but I'm getting DigiMIDI service errors on loadup and what appears to be digital distortion (snaps, crackles & pops) on playback.

Thanks in advance - RH in ATL

DON'T hot-swap that firewire cable on your 002. It will damage the unit. Use the power switch instead.

+1.6 billion.

Don't get two discouraged if it takes a little doing I spent two weeks and a few hundred dollars in component swapping to get this version working.

Thanks for all the replies this far. Deleted all instances of PT and drivers off my system and am going to start over tonight...hey, it's the challenge with these beta releases. BTW, should I delete all the plugs I loaded and do a reload on them as well?

So I started over on the install...unistalled 8.0 & 8.0.3 as well as all the plugs and hardware driver. Also did a system restore prior to ever having loaded anything Digi. Now I'm in the midst of the step-by-step instructions alluded to in the above post. Step 1 is simply loading PT8 (and not connecting the 002 when prompted to do so). All good except after choosing "OK" aftering being prompted to hook up the 002 (and not doing so), I seem to be locked with a "Installing Digidesign Hardware Drivers" dialog box. The green progress bar made a little progress and I'll keep it going in case the heavens open up, but it's been well over 45 minutes now. Hey...I know this is a beta release. But if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks... --Roy

Really? I guess I just got really lucky... it was a 1 time deal for me... like 20 minutes to install and i haven't had any issues so far... except no LLM. Anyone know when Digi will have a final driver?

By the way, I know IE8 is the antichrist around here. Is there any way around using it with Win7? Think IE8 is the browser edition that Win7 comes with if I recall correctly. --R
