Default Mic preamp noisy?

Probably a well discussed topic but has anyone noticed that the preamp chain on the digi 002 rack is noisy? Listening with headphones via the headphone jack on the 002R, open a mic pot (with a mic plugged in), SM 58 i.e,,, there is lots of digital noise to be heard. Sort of like the sound of a USB chain. Does this get on the track as well?

You can't hear 1's and 0's my friend. There is no such thing as "digital noise".

I know what your saying, but, you can hear noisy crosstalk and what I would characterize as "data circuit noise". It is not uncommon for high speed data circuits to induce noise in analog audio. That's what I'm talking about.
However, I'm concerned about it getting onto the track.

If this were true there'd be no such thing as a DAW, no ProTools, no DUC ............so I suppose I'm not really typing this.? ...........................POP!

from what you're describing, it sounds like you're hearing processor noise from your computer coming through the 002. Is the audio out of your mac connected in any way to your 002? if I am trying to monitor my mac 1/8 inch stereo out via the 002's rca inputs, I will hear the noise you describe. But on my setup, if the ONLY connection between the 002 and the mac is the firewire cable, then I do not hear this noise at all.

though I have definitely seen posts of people who swear they hear this noise from the 002 when only a firewire cable is connected.

some people have replaced their mac's power supplies, some have bought new firewire cables that do NOT have the 2 extra pins for power to solve this problem

also, the 002's preamps are really nice little beasts......of course that's a subjective topic

yeah, I think it's worth checking out. I guess I'll need to record a track and see if it's there.
