I have never tried the Ardsync but, I just completed 64 track session using the Nanosync and it gives the 888/24 a much warmer sound. Everyone commented on how it gave a analog feel to the music.

The ardvark needs a distrbution box if you have a bunch of word clocks. I have an 02R, a bevy of samplers, lexicons, other digtal boxes etc. The nano looks good because of the multi clock outs on the back.
I'm going to test drive both of them later this week. I'll post my findings then.

P.S. - besides the rosetta, which other convertors out there are making a good impression?

The Prism PT converter is testing at the moment. "Batman" or 'Ade' here on the DUG has one to play with!

Quick question, which of the two units (Nanosync and Aardsync) do people prefer - from both an audio and a features point of view? (oh yeah - and cost!). If it was a head to head, which would win?

Does anyone know UK distributers for both?

And another question -
When clocking your 888/24's from superclock what settings are required in the hardware menu of ProTools?

How would you deal with recording digitally from a unit e.g. DAT which has no wordclock input? Presumably protools would be set to clock from the SP/DIF input for instance, then switched to (?) for clocking off the wordclock generator on playback?

Thanks again for your help,

E

Hi E-an,

<< Does anyone know UK distributers for both? >>

No. AFAIK, HHB are the only UK distributors of the Rosenthal Nanosync (UK£775).

The specs don't look quite as good for the Nanosync as they do for the Aardvark. However, the nanosync has more word clock outputs than the Aardvark; 6 in total, 3 of which can be x256 digi clock outputs. So it could be that you would need to buy an Aardvark and a distribution box to do the same job as the Nanosync.

I am no expert on this, but I looked into this a bit and what I found out is that a low jitter spec on some products doesn't necessarily mean they're better. A measure of jitter performance can not necessarily be described by a single value in picoseconds. Some manufacturers specify jitter over one audio sample which says nothing about periodic jitter. From what I've researched, the Nanosync's jitter specification is the total random jitter which is actually less than that of the Aardsync 2. Bottom line is how it sounds and from what people have said here, it sounds as good as the Aardsync 2. ...and with that, I ordered one about 5 minutes ago. I'll post results when I get it which should be in a week or so.
