To my ear, the converters sound quite good. Ditto for pres & clock. I use a LS56 as well as a Pro 40. Same quality, but the LS56 is more expandable and has wordclock. If you have trouble getting great recordings with these boxes, then upgrade your mics, monitors, etc etc etc. My 2 cents.
