Default Single or Dual Core, FX or X2?

Hi Everyone,

Because a few people had mentioned the AMD FX processors, my simple question is - will PT 7.0 + run better on the dual core AMD x2 processors, or the more expensive FX ones?

For instance, should I get the FX-57 (which comes with a free i-pod Nano on newegg.com!), or go with the AMD 4800 x2...

Thank you all for your help,
Milos

Hi Allen,

firstly I know its been said before but thanks for all the advice on this thread, if my machine goes to plan you will always be known as a legened in my studio.

I have had some serious issues so now its time to take the AMD plunge.

After upgrading to a 002r and PT7.1 from a 001 PT 6.4 I found the chipset on my XEON server board is no longer compatible (Intel 860) I have just ordered my parts to build the dual core AMD:

Asus A8V-VM
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
2 gig ram

What do you reccomed for a video card? Im looking to use two monitors currently I have an ATI card but its only 32meg.

Also the case I have has three quite internal fans will this be enough with the stock AMD heatsink and fan?

Any other tips?

Of course final spec and DaveC results will be posted.

Darren.

Hi. Building from scratch, what is total cost? I was thinking of having DELL build me a computer but maybe I'll go this route.
Thanks

H Allen,

I would like to know each processor is more suitable to work with PTLE; AMD 5000+, Xeon 5100 series or Dual cores X6700 intel.

I want to use all 32 tracks + a lot of plugins (waves).
At this moment I am also working with Giga Studio, but I think I should better use a dedicate PC for Giga.

I have the doubts concerning these matters. I hope that you have some advise for me.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Alex

Allan & Shane (and many others) you guys are definately a treasure to the DUC. I've read hundreds of DUC pages in the last few weeks (as I often do!) and I know I'm not alone, many people still are not clear of the following:

Is anyone reasonably successfully using WinPTsLE with bootcamp on MacPro? If so, what are the DVERB and Devec results like compared to WinPTsLE on PC Intel Quads or AMD Quads?

And the Macbook Pros, Is anyone reasonably successfully using WinPTsLE with bootcamp on MacBook Pros? If so, what are the DVERB and Devec results like compared to WinPTsLE on PC Laptops with Intel Core Duo or AMD Turion?

How are the new OctaPCs & OctaMACPros working? Are they doubling the numbers of RTAS plugins compared to their respective Quads?

It would be incredible to have a summary of these questions in one location at this point in time for everyone to refer to. Thanks a bunch DUCers!

Hi, thank you very much for the great informations! I really want to upgrade my system and need to know what components can stay. I use Digi002 Rack with Protools 7.0 (will be updated soon). I built my current system based on the list that was posted on this forum about four years ago. Below is what I have right now.
------------------
ASUS A7V8X-X Socket A (Socket 462) VIA KT400A ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton 2.167GHz Socket A Processor Model AXDA3000BOX - Retail

MITSUMI Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive

LITE-ON CD/DVD Burner Black IDE Model LTC48161H BK

2 HITACHI Deskstar 180GXP IC35L120AVV207-1 (07N9549) 120GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive

I have 1GB of RAM with this setting. The graphic card is Radeon 9000. One of the hard drives was broken and I need to get a new one. I feel like I should just get a new computer... but I wonder how much I could possibly save instead of spending $1500 at once. I would really appreciate if you give me an advice. Thank you!
