Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
Scan the last few pages for more details, but a socket 2011 hexacore rig should be your target IMO. But even a 2011 quad should be a major improvement.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
Track record??? If you guys just moved with the times and recommended the IVY with the onboard graphics (Intel 4000) that might not have been the case. Oh and Watercoolers and SSD's.....
Not you have to know that I am smirking here as I type. Due the internet, original intent is hard to convey. Maybe this can help You have to have the enemy on the internet, I have a black hat and a 3 day stubble...with whisky breath... You guys have done a great service for many people on this hobo thread. It might have cost people a few hundred more than they needed... |

The Ivy's have had a high failure rate among even advanced users. The onboard graphics issue is what is thought to be causing it and possibly issues related to some of the new power saving features. Onboard graphics has always been spotty for PT. On top of that, speed wise, the newer Sandy Bridge series is faster all around than the current Ivy lineup. Haswell is on its way and its all soon to change!! Why would you want people to build an inferior machine??

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
for the Opteron builds, the processors alone were 900$...... a piece and you had to have 2 of them!!! after that, they ALL seem cheap!!!!

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
Hi guys. Im trying to build a decent computer to run Pro Tools 11 and some video editing software such as Premiere and Aftereffects. Also I want to use Ableton live and do a bit of electronic production as well. My budget is 1400 and I have created a rough build but it is slightly more expensive then I thought.
Here it is: CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-3930K Six-Core 3.20 GHz 12MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011 (All Venom OC Certified) HDD: 2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Drive) MEMORY: 32GB (4GBx8) DDR3/2133MHz Quad Channel Memory (G.SKILL Ripjaws X MOTHERBOARD: (4-Way SLI/CrossFireX Support) GIGABYTE X79-UP4 Intel X79 Chipset Quad Channel DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ Ultra Durable 5, 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, 4 Gen3 PCIe x16, 2 PCIe x1 & 1 PCI SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 4GB 16X PCIe 3.0 Video Card (EVGA Superclocked) |
