How can I speed up play back on a Mac?
I'm using PT 2020.3 on a MBP. I have to listen to lots of interviews to find good moments, so I want to listen at a faster speed. I cannot figure this out. Is there a way?
I've read about Shuttle Lock but perhaps thats only be a detail in early PT versions because when I search the Avid online info, there's nothing in there about it. Thanks! |

You’d need a numeric keypad. Look up shuttle numeric keypad mode in the manual.

While it may be possible to do it with the Fn key modifier, I also recommend adding either a full-sized keyboard, or a numeric add-on.

Re: How can I speed up play back on a Mac?
I don't think this numeric pad solution is much of a help really, as the next playback speed is x2 which is pretty "chipmunky".
Anyway this is what I would do in your position - enable elastic "varispeed", set track to "ticks", and then set the tempo to something faster like x1.5 (e.g. a tempo of 120 becomes 180) so that you can still hear what the interviewee is saying but isn't completely chipmunked, highlight the good bits, then switch the elastic back off and "revert". You could probably use polyphonic as well if you prefer but for me using varispeed feels a bit more old school. It'd be really nice to have a varispeed control on the transport window though wouldn't it. Reckon I could get mixes done in half the time |

Re: How can I speed up play back on a Mac?
"QuickTime Player" can play audio at double (or even 5x) speed if that would work. I'd also recommend Roni Music's "Amazing Slow Downer" which is handy for changing speed and/or pitch.
