Default If you could choose 3 ...

things that you would desperately like to see make it into the next Pro Tools release ....

I'm talking about Icon controller specific features of course ... not software features. So let's hear about them and more importantly .... make them known to the developers ....

Most of us can come up with more but for this thread let's stick to your personal top 3.

Here's my top 3 :

1. Spill playlists into custom fader groups

Exactly .... spill / fold feature that would allow playlists to be spilled into a custom fader group and lets you control them / solo them on the fly in that group ...

2. Custom faders follow global encoder view switches ...

D Control specific yes ... nonetheless ... a preference that will make the global strip switches (inserts/sends/eq/dyn ...) change BOTH normal strip encoder views AND custom fader encoder views

3. simultaneous view of pre / post fader metering on the meter bridge

a metering pref ... allowing you to view pre and post fader levels at the same time on the meter bridge ... similar to 'input' mode when using the console in inline mode.

4. channel matrix 'a la' Pro Control

(ok I get 4 because I started the thread ...)

For those of us who used to work on a Pro Control .... Imagine a 'matrix' view on the encoders that would allow instant view / control of mute / solo / select states of the channels in the sessions, regardless of wether they are hidden or not of course.

5. control GUI sends view from the controller.

(well ... I think I should get 5 because ... because ... well just because ... )

Another one for us Pro Control dinosaurs. Remember how you could control the sends view in the GUI mixer window to display your Sends A / B / C and so on by selecting them from Pro Control ?
Well ... if not in assignments view in Pro Tools ... we should be able to do the same from the controller ... somehow ... from the softkeys somewhere for example. Or by holding down Ctrl + alt with your left hand while selecting a send on the encoders with your right hand together with holding down the global sends view switch with your nose and selecting the first 3 channel mute switches with the heel of your left foot ... whatever ...

all d-control specific (i think). and i'm still on 7.2....

-shift flip or control flip on the big main flip buttons to flip customs faders. i hate the way flip works in custom faders. and i only ever really want to flip my custom faders, as i generally work in custom groups, making the five big yellow flips in front of me flippin' useless

-custom channel strip. could work like the user section in the soft keys, press ctrl and touch an encoder to add it to your custom encoder selection. for instance, as i do post, i'd have pan, reverb send, high pass, low pass, and LFE. you could select custom section by pressing inserts and pan together or something

-soft keys for nudge adjustments. ie to change from one frame to one second etc., and from timecode to beats and bars

cheers

May be a way to do some of these, but I don't spend every day in front of a board...

-User Presets!!! (not just the user soft keys) But ALL icon settings saved and easily recallable for different users. (eg. custom soft keys, spill preferences, fader justification preferences etc etc etc)

-Focus Fader Follows Edit Cursor. (your focus fader follows the track your edit cursor is on) Bonus: If your cursor is on 2 or more tracks focus fader controls ALL of them like a virtual VCA

-New Apple Keyboard mounted on a metal plate that fits the D-Control (you could easily mod yourself, I suppose, but I couldn't come up with 3 things)

OK, I'd like to make this all 3 of my requests.
Drove me INSANE today...
Even if you use the <option> flip under the encoders, you lose the channel name on the scribble strip. Great I just flipped the encoders to the faders, but I have no freakin' idea which channel is which now...WTF!?!?!?!?!

Now THAT'S a really clever left-of-center idea. I like that a lot!
The D-Control could do with some more features that further eclipse what's possible on other controllers or with mouse alone. A "floating virtual VCA" like you describe opens up a world of incredibly fast automation possibilities.

I totally endorse the complaint about flipping Custom Faders too. This could be so much better.

Man that would save me half a lifetime!!
I hate grouping and ungrouping just to be able to mix a few tracks at the same time.

1.D Command users desperately need a Global Encoder Mode. You press Pan on one channel and they all switch to Pan, press Inserts, they all switch. Like the Pro Control does. I'm constantly holding Option to make this happen.

2. An easier way to make CF groups. You should be able to select tracks either on the desk or GUI, press a key combo, assign a number, done.

3. I'd also like a mode where the desk follows the GUI. I have an 8 fader unit and it would nice to have the option for the desk to follow me as I move through the session.

Lock channels to strips so you can't nudge them left/right etc (I use Custom Faders but this would be handy too)

BIG BIG BIG PLEASE. All flip function/master EQ/Dyn/send buttons work the same in Custom Faders as outside Custom Faders, this one is starting to get really annoying for me, it'd be easy to implement and make it a preference for anyone that doesn't agree with me!

Touch fader to focus.

Copy/paste EQ/Dyn settings in the center section, I find it hard to believe it isn't there.

Combined Sel/Focus mode

Better gearing options on the encoders, still not found a mode that feels right. Have to use Apple+Encoder a lot.

Able to interrogate EQ/Dyn center section control values without putting them into write.

Fix Shift-Option-Capture in 8.01cs1!

Onscreen routing matrix, I've tried and do sometimes use the hold Sends way but it's no match for an onscreen XY view

Hitting Trim to automatch out of automation writing and trim mode in one go.

And... Allow automatching ANY single control - like the manual implies you can do but can't

That's my three.

Pete

Also, what about giving the icon eucon so you can use it to control nuendo or logic if you need to.
