Default Dual Processors?

I have inherited a PC with dual processors. The reason I got it was that I was planning to set up a designated Pro Tools system for recording. Now it seems there may be problems. Does anyone know if I can use this PC for PT?

Thanks.

Default Re: Dual Processors?

theoretically I don't see why not. I haven't heard of any problems so long as you use WinXP. I would suggest the Professional version.

In Windows, the OS manages the two processors even if the application does not. Unless there is something specifically wrong with PT (i.e. a bug in PT), it shouldn't make any difference if there is one or two processors in the computer. You may not notice that much of a difference in performance though.

When I did test a few years ago, I found that a program NOT designed for dual processors running on a Dual machine was only about 10~15% faster. Not even really noticeable. But a program specifically designed to take advantage of the second processor would in have increases upwards of 50%. Granted this was a few years ago. XP may react differently.
