Very confused about PT 10.3.9

Hi everyone,

I know Pro Tools 10.x has been out for some time now, but why is pt 10 still available despite pt 11 now having been out for a good year nearly now?

You can't load RTAS plugins in to pt 10 anymore can you?

Is it just so you can use the avid video engine in pt 10 as I know they have had trouble with pt 11 and the video engine?

Hi,

You can still use RTAS in 10, nothing has changed as far as RTAS in concerned! as well as RTAS you can also use AAX Native 32 bit in 10.

Also many users can not use 11 due to hardware or choose not to update.

Maintenance releases. This is a good thing!! There'll likely be one or two more until 10 is completely finished.

Oh brilliant! I thought it was just aax 32bit you could only use in pt10 now. That;s very reassuring and put my mind at rest.

...or the fact that, even now, many software manufacturers haven't been able to migrate their products from RTAS to AAX/64.

...or the fact that there are still major bugs which make PT11 entirely unusable for the many of us who use MIDI and multiple outs.

...or the fact that new Macs ship with Mavericks and a co-op of PT10 & PT11 is still risky. It's been fine for me but that's not always the case.

PT10 is a bridge release, and it can run RTAS(32bit), TDM(32bit), AAX-native(32bit), and AAX-DSP(32bit) depending on your hardware.

PT11 is still less than a year old product and not every plugin have been released as AAX(64bit). That's why they give you PT10/PT11 license bundle and you can keep using the old system if the tool of your choice is not yet PT11 compatible. Because as you very well know, PT11 is fully 64bit and none of the old 32bit plugin platforms are compatible. It needs to be AAX(64bit) or it won't work.
