Default Re: MacBook Pro (2015) & Digi002

Hi, thanks for the info.

Your Macbook should be fine for PT11/12 as it has an i7 Quad Core processor, 8GB Ram and a super fast 256GB Flash drive.
Thatīs definitely cool and a good buy for a Pro Tools recording system.

Ah, ok, I just saw you wrote you are using OS X El Capitan. There you have the problem finally.
The 002 isnīt qualified for the use with El Capitan anymore and even with Yosemite many 002 users could not get it to work
properly anymore unfortunately. Itīs simply not suitable for the latest versions of OS X and Pro Tools anymore.

The Macbook is great for the use with PT12, so just replace the 002 with a more current interface and you should be good to go.

If you can afford it I would strongly recommend to get a Thunderbolt audio interface because your Macbook offers 2 Thunderbolt
ports which is cool indeed.
If this will be too expensive at the moment I would recommend to get a very small and affordable yet good quality, well working
USB interface now which is the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.

This little box offers a lot for the really low price. Itīs only €139.- yet offering really good audio quality (much better than much
more expensive interfaces) and it is class compliant which means it does not need any driver or software. Itīs just plug and play
and it does work with the latest versions of OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 and Pro Tools 12.4 flawlessly.

I can confirm this as I use this set up for mobile applications myself (besides my UA Apollo desktop system).
Another great little option is the -Direct Monitoring- function which allows for true zero monitoring while recording audio sources
like vocals. Thatīs a lot better than any software monitoring solution obviously.

Of course it offers only 2 mic pres/Inputs and 2 Line Outs but it would be a seriously well working interim solution until you would
be able to get a cool Thunderbolt interface. Btw you get a bunch of pretty nice plugins with the purchase of the little Scarlett like
the really beautifully sounding Focusrite Red series and many more (check it out on the Focusrite site).

If on the other hand you should be able to afford a bit more you might check out the brand new Thunderbolt series from Focusrite,
the Claretts.
Starting with the Clarett 2pre

followed by the Clarett 4 pre (which will offer similar stuff like the 002 as for I/Os and connections)
https://www.musicstore.de/en_GB/GBP/...PCM0013755-000
finally the larger units Clarett 8pre and Clarett 8preX

They are brand new and really fantastic stuff for their prices. They offer the lowest latency on the market and definitely studio grade
quality as for the preamps and converters. They compete with much more expensive gear actually (confirmed by real pros).

Another really cool Thunderbolt interfaces are the famous Universal Audio Apollo Twin series. They just offer not a lot I/Os if you should
need all you once had with your 002 but they offer serious studio quality as well.

If you can afford even more there will be more options of course.

You see, to buy the Macbook was the right decision if you want to use PT12 successfully. You only need to get a well working interface now.
No matter if the really cool little Scarlett 2i2 or one of those super fast, cool Thunderbolt units, everything will be better than your 002 obviously.

Wishing you the best of success,

cheers, VRW

PS: btw any of these interfaces (from the Scarlett to the expensive ones) will work with Garageband, Logic etc. without any issues as well but they
all will work with PT12 perfectly.
