No midi keyboards in PT 8 on Command 8

I installed PT8 on my HD2 system (which went fine). I plugged a keyboard into the MIDI ins and outs and was able to test the new keyboards in PT8. two days later with no changes to anything I do not get the MIDI lights on the Command 8 to indicate MIDI data and the keyboard doesn't work with PT8. the keyboards work fine by themselves and all cables have been tested and are working. What could I be doing wrong? I have sessions coming soon and help ASAP. thanks in advance.
