Default Dual G5 2gig and PRO TOOLS LE ROCKS!

Got my G5 today and my update. What timing! Putting it through the ringer. 32 tracks with plugins galore including 3 WAVES reverbs. The G5 laughs and says give me more! I pulled up a session with reason adapted and lots of midi. My 1gig powerbook had to use 1024 samples for playack(bad when recording more parts because of latency). I opened the same session on the G5 and set the buffer to 128 samples. NO PROBLEM! I am amazed so far. I am sure i will find some bugs but this system is well on its way. I have 1.5gigs of RAM. I bought a gig more and haven't even installed it yet. Oh I am using DIGI 002. Anybody out there experiencing the same as me?

I'm right there with you. Audio Tracks galore, Midi (Sampletank II which is supposed to be a processor hog) tracks galore and Waves Plugins. I've been waiting for this for seven weeks and hallelujia (sp?) Christmas came early.

I don't know if I will be able to find a pre-existing session that I've worked on that will push the dual 2.0 to the limit.

No sleep tonight.

I would like to know how many instances of Dverb mono to stereo you could run before you redline CPU usage. This is the simplest and most direct and "real" test for Pro Tools CPU power. On a 2.4 Ghz PC laptop I get 13 Dverb inserts. On a 1 Ghz G4 I get 9. Someone reported 17 for a dual 1.25 G4 with PT 6.1. Could you check how many Dverb mono to stereo you can do with your dual G5? Just open a bunch of tracks and insert Dverb with your system usage window open and see how many times you can plug Dverb in before you redline your CPU. I'm sure a lot of us would be interested in the results you get.
Thanks.

When i ran a session on my internal drive i was able to get 32 Dverbs and about 5 compressors.. oddly enough i was only able to get about 28 on my firewire drive...

EDIT:
this was on my Dual 2Ghz G5.. disregard my signature... sorry for any confusion

T h i r t y t w o d v e r b s impressive...VERY....impressive!!!!! I'm happy for ALL you G5 pilgrims!!!!! Awesome!!!!

I guess it was worth the wait heh?
Hey anyone using like 2-4 or 8 gigs of RAM already?
I think I'll jump into a G5 when all is ironed out in the next few months with Panther, FXpansions adapter and UAD's OSX drivers.
Then it's a loaded G5 3Ghz and 2 or 3 UAD-1 cards.
Happy for Ya'll...try to get some sleep tonite!!!!!!!!!

Finally, a simple test! I dub thee the "Didger Test".

I believe the rules are:

1) Create an empty session
2) Create 10 stereo audio tracks
3) Open the System Usage palette from the View menu
4) Add multi-mono versions of DVerb until the CPU bar in the System Usage palette redlines
5) If you need more than 10 tracks (50 plugs), consider yourself the winner and take your trophy home

Didger, please correct if those are wrong.

If they're right, I only got 6 in the green (see sig for system specs). That's pretty weak. Think having other apps open makes much of a difference?

Not towards you personally, but if one can't produce quality songs with 32 tracks (or gasp less), I'd revisit the arrangement or seriously question their mixing skills.

At the risk of being unpopular, can someone please do the DaveC test with this machine, so we can accurately assess the overkill factor....

Cheers
