Default 16 channels via ADAT into 002r?

Hey all...

I'm thinking of using two octopre units to get 16 analog outs (for live recording), and simultaneously send the 16 channels into the 002r via ADAT. Is this possible. If so how?

Much thanks.

Thanks IntelDoc.

Any idea what unit can I use to record the 16 channels of ADAT (from the two octopre's)?
And how do I transfer from that unit to the 002r?

Hope this is not a dumb question.

Much thanks again.

You can record 16 tracks but only 8 can be thru the lightpipe input. The other 8 would come in analog. You could use a second Octopre and patch it with an 8 channel TRS snake into line inputs 1 thru 8. Make sure you set the 002 line inputs to +4.

Yes. One solution would be to buy an Alesis HD24 recorder and a sync unit that utilizes MIDI and ADAT 9-pin sync (like the JLCooper DataSync2) for real-time transfer, or the Alesis Fireport for digital file transfer. You can record 16 tracks at a time (24 tracks if you had 3 octopre's instead of 2), then transfer the tracks to the 002r. If you're doing real-time transfer, you can only do 8 channels at a time thru litepipe and sync. Of course, you may want to monitor your tracks as they are being recorded, and you would need a 16 or 24 channel console for that. A digital (with ADAT interface capability) or analog console will work with the HD24.

I think above all I hope the 003 if it ever happens addresses this problem. I want more digital in and outs, 8 was fine for the 001. The 002 should have doubled that. Maybe the Maudio way is the way to go or will be. Otherwise I might have to re-mortgage my house and go HD.

Thanks guys,

The Alesis HD24 looks a good prospect, I'll do some research on it.
