Upgrading 7.4.2 to 8 or 9?
I'm running an IMac with 4g ram, 10.6.8. OS x upgraded from leopard a while ago- pro tools 7.4.2 LE and an mbox 2-everything works fine on this system.
I've just purchased a new MacBook pro to use to record away from home-4g ram 1333 MHz, and have migrated all applications over-now opening pro tools my digidesign hardware isn't detected. Is it as simple as reinstalling core drivers from disc? I've read that 7.4 isn't compatible with snow leopard but it works fine on my old iMac which is using 10.6.8 also. Just wanted to clarify my options to get this mbox working in the cheapest way possible already spent enough getting the new comp. If I do need to buy an upgrade that's fine but can i go from 7.4 to 9? Or doni have to buy 8 then upgrade to 8.0.5? Just want to confirm what I can and can't do as once I've bought an upgrade I've paid whether it works or not. Thanks |

Re: Upgrading 7.4.2 to 8 or 9?
It's hard to know why the hardware is not working on the new computer. Considering it's not supported with Snow Leopard, there's not much you can really do to get support for it.
If you can spend the money to upgrade, you'll be happier with it. You can go straight to 9 from 7.4, as it's based on your hardware, not your software. Your Mbox 2 serial number qualifies you for the $250 crossgrade price. Keep in mind that PT9 requires an Ilok to run, I don't know if you have one of those yet, so that could be a small extra expense. But it's convenient in that you can install on as many computers you want, and use whichever one you plug the Ilok into. If you wanted, you can still buy Protools 8, which would be $100 cheaper, but I think it's worth the extra money to go to 9 in the long run. Keep in mind that with either 8 or 9, you'll want to do a complete (clean) uninstall of 7.4. Both 8 and 9 come with full installers so that method will work better. |

Re: Upgrading 7.4.2 to 8 or 9?
As pointed out, 7.4.2 is not compatible with your operating system. Wish as you might, it isn't going to work properly.
My suggestion is to upgrade to 8.0.4.
