Default Re: Any recommended Glyph drives??

This is really a personal preference-All of them work pretty much the same way, and usually have the same exact Oxford chipsets and internal drives made by various manufacturers.

I've had Glyph, EZQuest, Other World Computing, Lacie D2, Oyen Digital(newer company, and great stuff). As long as the desktop enclosures are properly fan-cooled and quiet enough, there should be no problems with any of them, even though every drive out there will most likely fail, eventually.

For the buss-powered 7200rpm drives, I like the 320GB OWC On-The Go FW 400/800 USB 2.0 (clear case), and the Oyen Digtal Quad interface (FW800/400/USB 2.0/SATA).

We've come a long way from having to work around the SCSI 'Approved Drive and controller' lists that Digi had 10-15 years ago.

Wink Re: Any recommended Glyph drives??

Why would anyone use FW400??? when FW800 gives you more Everything?

I got the glyph GT050Q = 500gb, and I used to use the EZ Quest FW800 - 350gb. They seem very similar, but the glyph has a smoother dynamic when I open it, and the connectors are tighter and more snug.

1 gb ram on a MBPro is not enough. You should at least have 2g... get the fw800, you will be glad you did.

Actually FW800 gives you more for data bursts, but for sustained data transfer like recording the difference with FW400 is minimal. There is a thread here on the DUC that discusses it and I have discussed it with drive makers who confirmed the info.

Some Pro Tools systems will not work properly with a Firewire drive running at 800mbps, and must use it connected as FW 400. The MBox2 Pro and the M-Audio interfaces are good examples of this.
