S1 Switch layouts not working

Hi all...

I just received my S1 yesterday and am getting it set up. I have worked previously on an S3 and am familiar with EuControl etc. I set up some layouts in EuControl, however, I can't seem to figure out how to switch to different layouts on the S1. I watched some YouTubes, and have followed those steps: push "surface shift" button in upper left of board, followed by the soft keys at the front of the board... but no luck. Is there something I'm missing?

I am using the S1 without a tablet, and did not install Avid Control.
