Help. Crash opening pre 24 mix sessions

Are you referring to a MAC .MPEG file or a PC .mpg file or something else? If you are trying to open this file in Pro Tools it won't work unless it's first decoded and encoded into a quicktime format. I just tried one on my Pro Tools system and it worked for about 5 seconds then froze my system up. If your not referring to either of these files please debrief me on the acronym.

it's a mac.
it starts as an mpeg. then gets turned into a quicktime/sorenson. i have done this everyday for the past year and a half. i have never had a problem until i tried to open a session that was done 16bit/4.3.1. when i tried to open the session in pt 24bit/4.3.1 i get this crash. any new files that i have created with this same setup in pt/24/4.3.1 work fine. i even cancelled when it looks for the movie and i still get the crash. it crashes when it's loading the plugins. it will load a couple of plugs then crash.
i don't think it has anything to do with the movie anymore because it does go beyond the point where the movie loads.
could it have something to do with the vintage dsp cards???.i have added some new plugins: waves ren.comp. tc masterx.

just today had to open some older files that i have not opened since updating to mix/24.
when i try to open any of these sessions i crash the whole system. is this that res edit thing in a old thread i read about and was glad it wasn't
happening to me..... help i got clients breathing down my neck....
update: i just discovered it's only with sessions that i have a mpg in. it looks for the mpg and can't seem to find it. i show it where it is and then it
crashes.
