No,i don't think so. It is qualified yesterday for 12.8.3 so 12.5 will probably only give you headaches.

And not entitled if you aren't on a annual plan, if yes then tou can update your license to 12.8.3 but if you aren't on a plan you would have to pay for that transition. Reinstatement is $299 for one year of updates and upgrades should any major version drop during that year of plan.

Thank you Southsidemusic, much appreciated your speedy reply.

I am on El Capitan with Pro Tools 12.5, with a Perpetual licence plan, but its expired now.
So I guess I would need to get reinstated?

Do I need to update to High Sierra before doing anything?

We have been on HS for a week now and no issues at all

2 Mac Pro Cylinder trashcans and one new MBP and 2 older 2014 MBP's all running on High Sierra with fast stable sessions.

I see you are on Elcap which is the absolute worst OS ever so I would either go to Sierra or High Sierra asap.

Go to Sierra.PT 12.5 is very stable on Sierra. Someone in another thread posted a link to the Sierra download. I had nothing but trouble with pro tools on el cap.

Thank you appledude,

Though Pro Tools 12.5 is stable with my El Capitan, no problem at all!

All new computers come with High Sierra, this is the problem!

Aside from the latest iMac Pro, you can install Sierra on all current Macs, regardless what they shipped with.

Download a copy of Sierra. Make a bootable USB drive with it. Boot your Mac holding the option key and select the USB installer. Use Disk Utility and format the internal Mac HD. Install Sierra.

It can't cause issues as every Mac currently available, aside from the iMac Pro, shipped when Sierra (or older) was the current OS.

Why move backwards? Especially if you have to ask how to do this maybe you should just upgrade Pro Tools and run in the now supported and seemingly stable High Sierra and Pro Tools 12.8.3 combination.
