I'm curious if we can freeze a track in realtime. I mean by this, if we can freeze a track which contains an i/o external hardware eq, compressor etc. With commit this is possible. In this pro tools experts article this is unclear.

I second that. This will be a workflow lifesaver for VI overdubs. Next I'd like to see clip list folders and plugin chain presets. Those would be great workflow enhancements and they'd also eliminate a lot of the criticism that Pro Tools is behind the curve relative to other DAWs. It wouldn't put them at the head of the innovation curve necessarily, but it would be hard to argue that PT would be missing features standard to modern DAWs anymore.

Avid may be a little late to the party on some of these features, but they are making up for it in implementation. Track freeze and commit are extremely well thought out, and I believe Pro Tools implements these in a far more useful way than the competition. For example, Logic freeze is all or nothing whereas Pro Tools has options for freeze up to a particular insert. I have several VI intensive sessions in my queue right now, and I can't wait to try this update. Kudos Avid. You did a really good job here.

Since track freeze is an offline process, it can't be done with hardware inserts

So this "freeze" thing is a disable / enable option? This is what some people are getting excited about? Disable Tracks & Plugins? You couldn't do this before? This is what Avid calls the next step for Pro Tools?? It goes to show how far behind Pro Tools is.
Any real experienced Pro Tools user knows where this is heading: More bugs & Errors.

You should probably look into what freeze is so you actually know what you are talking about before making judgements.

It' a disable / enable option that isn't new. It's an "excuse" of a feature.

If this is the case then we still have "commit". Not bad at all! :)
