Thinking of Buying the 11R & Would Like Some Advice
The more I hear the 11R, the more I really like it. I am currently using a Line6 X3 bean; I love the metal tones and the fact it's an audio interface as well. So, I would greatly appreciate it if you would kindly chime in and answer some questions.
1) I currently use Reaper because it's been easier for me and I am just use to it. Some time ago, someone told me that in order to record with the 11R it is mandatory to use Pro Tools and that it will not work with other DAW's . Well, I tried learning Pro Tools a couple of years ago and it was waaayyy above my head. Could I use the 11R as my audio interface/guitar processor, and still record with Reaper? 2) Have you 11R users been satisfied with the performance of both the unit and Avid's customer service regarding the 11R? 3) Has Avid been diligent in downloadable upgrades in the amp, cab, and effects areas? 4) Have the metal players been satisfied with the tone of the unit? Like I said, I am really impressed with this unit, but I want to record using Reaper, not Pro Tools (I'm a hobbyist that doesn't want or have the time to take PT classes)...I play mostly hard rock and metal....and want a product (audio interface - guitar multi-effects processor) that gets a lot of attention by its manufacturer by way of good updates and excellent customer service. Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Chaz |

And i must note: In order to use the Eleven Rack GUI Window, Pro Tools must be open. there is no standalone Eleven Rack Window at this point, it is integrated into Pro Tools. Of course you do not need the GUI, you can make adjustment right on the Eleven Rack itself. Quote:
If you need help, as the question here, and we will answer it and save you a phone call. Quote:
I can tell you the Eleven Rack Expansion Pack was released a few weeks back and add a bunch of new amps and effects. its $99, which is less than $3.50 for each new item added. www.avid.com/erxp Quote:
Also, just a plug for one of my favorite music stores, Music123.com will BEAT any price, so find the lowest price you can for an Eleven Rack, then let Music123 know, and they will beat it. I am not affiliated with Music123 in any way, they have just always been great in dealing with me, so I like to plug 'em when I can. You will enjoy the Eleven Rack.

So it is essentially Pro Tools driven then?

What is PT driven? The Eleven Rack can be used with any DAW, one way or another, or with no DAW at all. You can use it Live, not hooked up to any computer.
I use the Eleven Rack in Reaper just fine. But only for testing, I use Pro Tools as my main DAW.

11R works great with Sonar X1 and Riffworks which are the two DAWS I use.

oh were you talking about the Eleven Rack GUI Window? Then yes, that is Pro Tools driven. But you dont have to use the GUI, you can use the Eleven Rack itself to control setting.
To be clear, im just talking about this window http://www.box.net/shared/9hdifd8flt The Eleven Rack functions just fine without Pro Tools, but as an avid Pro Tools users, I must suggest you give PT another try, once you "get it" you will love Pro Tools. There is a reason PT is the industry standard.

Re: Thinking of Buying the 11R & Would Like Some Advice
I mainly use Logic with the 11r and it works great. I will say there are more features available when used with PT like saving rigs on tracks and the GUI.
Overall I have to say the 11r is absolutely amazing. It's very easy to get a great sound quickly and is very tweekable. I've been quite pleased! This is a good forum with lots of help available from both users and Digi 11r staff. Fritz |

1) Yes you can, but with a caveat. It doesn't mute the main outputs when running with any software other than ProTools. This is abit annoying as you'll have some issues with monitoring yourself. They should definitely have an option someone to mute the guitar out tracks in the next firmware (I know, vote on Ideascale :P) 2) Yes, and yes. I've dealt with customer service twice. Once directly with Avid (They fedex-ed me a replacement part in 3 days with 0 hassel), once with my local distributor (top notch service). TheChimp and Chris are all over this forum as well, and are always chiming in to help with technical problems or just to share more about the inner workings of the 11R. It doesn't get much better than that. 3) We've had a couple of lightweight firmware updates and the flat-out AWESOME ERXP. There have been allusions that more are on the way (no promises, mind you!), and I think they will materilize in due course. 4) I have :) Tornado of Souls Tornado of Souls - solo Orion My Friend of Misery Losfer Words Master of puppets |

Re: Thinking of Buying the 11R & Would Like Some Advice
I will second the Lynda.com plug. I had never used Pro Tools and only used an older version of Cubaseand some shareware type of DAWs. The included tutorials got me through basic recording then Lynda.com made me really understand what I was doing and allowed me to get better mixes. Pro Tools can appear overwelming but it is actually pretty easy to use, ESPECIALLY with the 11R. They are just so perfect together.
You will not be sorry with your purchase. I used Pod Farm and an XT before and there is no comparison. With the success of the expansion pack (which can be proven by the posts on this forum and others) I would imagine we will see another expansion and it will most likely include a standalone editor. In my opinion, this and the Axe/Fx are in a class of their own, the 11R may not have the millions of option included with the Axe, but it has plenty and is so easy to use. And by the way you can probably integrate the POD into the 11R's loop, but if you do it probably will not last long that long, the 11R is just too good. |
