Still no problem. Been about a year. Only drag is I leave it on 24/7, but well worth the extra electric expense. I've turned it off maybe four or five times.

Any updates on this ALU scene? I've been having the ALL LIT UP problem the last week- it comes and goes, most of the time the monitors still work but sometimes not, talkback useless, and this is a new control 24 (well relatively so- i had the original batch control 24 with all the problems- paint job, power supply, etc. and after many fixes digi sent me a whole new console with all the latest power supply revisions and new paint- this was about a year or two ago). has anyone figured out what this is? is it really just reseating connectors in the power supply? is this something someone like me, who is technically challenged, could do without boning it? any info is appreciated- i'm ready to throw this thing off the roof... thanks pram

what, even Control 24 has bugs? Hah... I guess there's no point in upgrading from LE to something else. I'm gonna stick to low end.

here's the fix:

Trifurcon™ Crimp Terminal 6838, 18-20 AWG, Bag, Phosphor Bronze Tin (Sn)

molex part number 08-52-0113

trifucon crimp terminal -Mouser Part #: 538-08-52-0113

crimp terminal housing-
2 circuits- 538-09-50-3021
3- 538-09-50-3031
4- 538-09-50-3041
5- 538-09-50-3051
8- 538-09-50-3081

these are molex pins that grip the post so that it will have contact on 3 sides. I use these on several different machines and found they work on the C24 as well.

For the record our experiences with "All Lit Up":
4 Studios on XW8000/Expansion Chassis/C24/AV10/HD3
Initially I had them all on a switch using the internal ethernet for C24 and network. Random "all lit ups" in one studio would always cause the other studios to "all lit up" too.
Although not Digi approved, I gave them all a cheap Microtec ethernet card (in the last but one slot counting from the graphic card) for the C24.
Since then - nearly a year - not one "all lit up". The C24s are turned on and off every day....

Hope this helps

Ill second that, we've had no wierd glitches since we replaced the DC leads from the PSU with new leads and connectors, my guess is that the connectors are loose enough to allow arcing on the 48v rails causing the PSU to lock

Just wanted to give an update for future C24 users who experience this "all lit up" problem. i had my tech guy (who i trusted who wouldn't do anything stupid) open up the unit, clean out and reseat all the connectors and ribbon cables, vacuumed it out, and made sure that nothing was causing the power supply to arc. he said it was a mess in there (dust, dirt, crud) and a thorough cleaning and reseating of things did it- working great, knock wood. so sometimes just a nice clean up job makes everything happy nice nice... enjoy pram

For all those who sent it back:

Did it cost you anything to send it, or did Digi pick up the cost? And if so, how did that work?

OH! And make sure you indicate whether it was STILL UNDER WARRANTY or not.

Thanks!

Hey guys. First of all Happy Holidays to all!

So here's the meat. My girl bought me the 30" inch HD Mac Monitor Screen for X-mas. Yes I know... I love her too! Looks fantastic!

Anyways so I had powered down my system to install the new monitor and when I Restarted my computer... I followed my usual procedure and tried turning my Control 24 on next. Well instead of just turning on, with lights blinking and the faders doing that "I'm alive!" jump, it just started clicking. Like, click, click, click, click, click etc. The lights would blink so fast you almost couldn't see them.

I've tried several methods to fix but I knew almost immediately that THIS PROBLEM... would one day happen to even me. I used to be the guy that would post "Mine works fine. I love it!". Karmas a bitch... I knew the Power Supply would go.

So I'm nearly 100% positive that its a Power Supply Unit issue.

My question is... from your guys experience... does it sound like the PSU is bad or does this problem occur when the connections come undone? As in do you think they just need to be reseated?

My biggest gripe is that the Control 24 now sits inside of my brandy new custom console desk. Where if I need to get to the back panel I'll have to do some fairly hefty cable removaling.... heh.

I know where the panel is on the back. But there is a screw located right next to where the power cable runs into it.

Do I just take that little box (1 inch by 1 inch approx.) AROUND the power cable out or the entire back panel?
After I do that... what then?
Any thing I should look for or know?
Any pointers fellas?

Thanx for your time guys!

Krumbz

Krumbz....

To remove the power supply, set the unit on a solid surface upside down.
(I found upside down easier)

The power supply is the (roughly) 8 inch by 10 inch panel on the rear.
No need to remove the screws right next to the plug.

Remove all the screws around the outer edges and pull it out at the top first,
and carefully remove to the extent the wires reach.

Now... Use a needlenose pliers to carefully remove the Hot Glue from 1 connector at a time.
Remove the connector from it's place, Use Deoxit Contact cleaner generously on/in the connectors,
work the connection in and out of place 4 or 5 times.
Use Deoxit Gold to protect the connections from corrosion.
Reseat the connection.

Repeat that process for every connection on the Power Supply.
Do them one at a time so as not to put anything back in the wrong place.

Once you've done them all, ReApply hot glue to BOTH SIDES or the MIDDLE of every connection.

That should be it.

I just did mine this week due to my Monitor Section failing, and I've had no issues yet.

Quite easy, took me aroung 30 minutes.

Hope that helps.

If you're nervous, call Digi Tech Support and ask them to email you the PDF instructions for replacing the Power Supply.... This will help somewhat as a guide around the unit. It'll give you a visual reference. Keep in mind that those instructions were designed for the replacement of the old style Power Supply, and so a couple of the instructions will not apply.

Hope that helps.

Before opening, make sure you're familiar with Digi's Release Of Liability form... They would send that with the instructions.

There is hope.
