Thanks guys for all the help/info...I really appreciate it.

Could any of you guys point me in the right directions as regards monitors? An entry level set...sth under $200 would be great. There are so many options out there and I know that some sets will put there own stamp on the sound (which is bad right? :) ) So if someone could recommend a particular set, that would be great.

Thanks again guys.

Not much wiggle room there. I would check MAudio first. If you could double or triple that figure you could get into something a great deal more accurate. I realise its not probably a option. On a related subject you may want to buy a good set of over the ear headphones to cut down on bleed while tracking vocals.

Ok cool, thanks.

So I took a look at the MAudio monitors. How about the
M-Audio BX5a (not deluxe) ? Looks like I could pick up a set for about $200.

Also...would anyone recommend a good site for buying this type of equipment?

Hi I'm upgrading to Windows 7, is it only available as 64 bit, because reading onward I see someone stated 64bit may not be the best option?

You dredged up a 2 year old thread here. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit works great and I see no reason to go with any other OS. It made a big improvement here over XP Pro with no other hardware changes. My Dverb count went from 320 to 500! I am finally getting the boost from my 6GB of RAM, in spite of PT being a 32 bit app. If you have any troubles, it will either be system tweaks or maybe some odd hardware issue. Sometimes it just seems like the planets are not in alignment. My i7 920 system runs like a train, but me new i7 950 system refuses to be stable no matter what I try(on hardware that others are running fine). AFAIK, all the i7 socket 1366/x58 combos are solid, as long as things are setup correctly. That means setting BIOS correctly first, then doing all the required system tweaks(along with most of the recommended tweaks). A separate recording drive is a must. If you plan on running lots of sample-based stuff, then a 3rd drive for sample libraries will help a lot. SATA and eSATA will give the best performance over any firewire or USB drive. I only use externals for backups and transfers
