Default Gain Levels

Just bought MAudio BX5A's to use with my Mac MBox mini PT8 setup. When looking to listen to iTunes library, I have the monitors hooked into my headphone jack. Is there a better way? As far as gain levels go should I have the speaker volume at 50% and keep the itunes/mac leves high or vice versa? Does it make a big impact on the sound quality? Any help is much appreciated!

You don't want to feed a hot signal to your speakers. That may distort the input. On the other hand, you don't want a weak signal that may add noise when you turn up the volume on your speakers.

You should be using the monitor outs to feed the speakers. You may have a mismatch that can affect frequency response by using the headphone out.

Is there a way to have itunes played thru the mBox mini? When I go into System Preferences/Sound and select the MBox, it says: Device does not have output controls.

its referring to internal software volume control (the little fader in windows)... your mbox has a level control.

So what is my fix, how do I get my Mac to recognize the MBox as my output device?

When I go into the Miidi Setup, I don't see an option to add the MBox. I though this would be a relatively easy task, assuming that most people use the MBox for iTunes playback? Might try the Avid helpline, which I'm sure will cost me a bit. I tried apple and suggested reinstalling Pro Tools, since when I got to System Preferences-Sound: If I select the MBox2 Mini under settings it says 'Selected device has no output controls' Any suggestions? Thanks again.
