Default Video of CPU usage WAY too high - part II

This video shows the problem so clearly I thought it deserved a new thread!
What I am looking for is either confirmation that this is real - has a bug number (from AVIID) and so may get fixed some day - OR - This is NOT acknowledged as a bug and labeled a system configuration issue (by AVID).

And yet one more video !!!
This time 8 tracks in Record -
96kHz, 64 Buffer- HD Native 11.0.2 OSX10.8.5 - all stock PT11 install 10.8.5 no plug ins
All optimizations for mac in - no bluetooth or Wifi
External recording drive - TB -> BlackMagic Multidock -> 512G Samsung 840 Pro
See the bug in action at 1:45 into the video !
Select 1080p for clearest image

---------------------
I have had this happen with
- 2012 mac mini, and two 2013 i7 imacs
- Happens sometimes with PT open and no session open
- Happens within a few minutes of TCE type editing
- Happens a lot less when Hyperthreading is disabled
----------------------
Here is a system trace output trace of PT11 when bug is happening from Xcode:instruments -- does this help??

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

I do with PT HD 11.1.1 on Mavericks, the fans really kick in after undoing recording, 11.0.2 seems fine though...

Propower, nice guitar playing in your video interlude!

I've observed the same behavior. Running PT 11.0.2.626 - I had been thinking it was to do with running out of RAM while having an instance of Mini Grand in session. Having been unable to run Ivory II in my sessions without getting the CPU overloads, I switched to using PT Mini Grand as a 'lightweight' alternative for temporarily sketching out the piano parts. Still got the -9173 errors, so opened up the Activity Monitor and saw the CPU spikes happening at seemingly random times.

A couple of days ago I upgraded my MBP from 4 to 8 GB RAM. Strangely, this made no difference insofar as my being able to run Mini Grand - I still got the CPU spike and had sessions freeze w -9173 Error message. However, I can now run Ivory II with no apparent CPU strain. I'll make a point to watch the Activity monitors over next few days of tracking and see if the spikes are still going on behind the scenes...

Thanks ...

And really good screenshot! It illustrates another aspect of this issue... Even if the normal session load is 20% for instance on the PT system usage meters - when the CPU issue hits - the PT system usage meters all go down to a very low value while the Apple Activity Monitor will clearly show that PT is consuming a significant percentage of the entire CPU - eating up valuable resources. With my old Mac Mini I would be recording and seeing low usage and then hear the fans just going like mad!

Thanks for adding in -

Also note that the Audio Hardware in play is totally varied... the common thing is PT11 - also been reported on Mavericks and ML, 11.0.2 and 11.1.1.

OK no video yet but 11.1.2 still does the same thing on 10.8.4

But - I stumbled on one way to make it stop!
If I record the 8 tracks and undo till the bug happens I then can make this bug stop if I

- Select the 8 just recorded clips and clear them from the clip list using the remove command. This leaves the files intact but removes them from the session - all of the sudden CPU usage goes back to normal! - I can then import the files back into the session and all is well

Now come on AVID - this is a big clue right? Something in how the region list is being stored by PT is messing up. The files aren't corrupt. Maybe just the region list is?

- As I stated in the beginning I just want this to be acknowledged to start so that it gets fixed...

-----------------------------------
PS- If I stop the session when the bug is happening and open the preference panel - the CPU goes back to normal -
When I close the preference panel - the CPU goes back to the abnormal high level

Try something for me, I think we are having very similar problems.
Go to prefs, metering, and uncheck "show send assignment level meter"
Let me know what happens!

I haven't had a chance to thoroughly look this over, but today I ran a 30 input session with buffers at 64 with reverb and 7 auxes for headphones. the CPU never went above 20%, no bounciness, not 1 6101 all day, no matter what I did.
fingers crossed it fixes it for you and anyone else reading this...

Tried it - even unchecked all three

Bug is exactly like video - no change

---------------------

But now that the Artist Control is working for me in 10.9.1 and Waves is running at 64 buffer 0 I tried a few things on the CPU bug. I believe it is related to undo and disc cache. Messing with these I found that Disc cache of 256MB and 512MB are not having the issue. But choosing no "Normal" or anything above 512MB do. I have 16GB Ram in 2 8G sticks so not the most likely suspect (I have used lots of ram with no issues on other things)...

The simple test in the video yields the bug in 2 to three passes with Hyperthreading left on (as is normal)... if any one else wants to try it...
