Default XP firewire PCI/External drive recommendations

Here's what I have:

XP Pro SP3 on a 1.6 GHz desktop with 1 GB RAM
ProTools 8.3 M-Powered and a Delta LT1010 audio card.

I have another similar Pro Tools machine and I want to be able to swap my Pro Tools drive from one machine to another. This system
has onboard firewire.

My plan is to install a firewire PCI card in my other machine and
be able to swap a firewire drive from one to the other. I'm trying to use an older firewire/USB combo PCI card on the other system but
having a myriad of problems getting the drive to consistently be
recognized, ProTools hanging etc.

Neither my firewire drive or PCI card are on the list of known
compatible hardware.

I have read through the various postings on compatible hardware
etc. At this point I'd like people to tell me what firewire drive and
PCI card combination they are using and know works.

I'm thinking a SIIG DP FireWire 2-Port PCIe and a Glyph GT 050Q 250GB Quad Interface Tabletop Hard Drive. Both are supposedly compatible but I would like to hear from people who are actually using Firewire and an external drive on XP.

Thank you!

Mark

Default Re: XP firewire PCI/External drive recommendations

Hello, IM using a SIIG TI Firewire Card and Glyph 500GB External Hard Drive and my system works great. But I also have a brand new Dell T1500 Workstation with a Intel i7 Chip. I can tell you my Dell came with a Firewire card that wasnt TI and it would not work at all, Pro Tools would not load. Ordered a new SIIG TI Firewire card and it worked perfect. So you should be fine but I dont know about the switching the card between computers, you might want to set up the best, fastest computer get that one set for Pro Tools and dont touch it.
