Default Mbox II Pro losing connection

Since today I'm experiencing problems with my MBox II. The connection to the notebook closes after about 5 minutes (light starts blinking, midi light goes off) even when I'm not in Protools LE. Replugging the firewire cable sometimes works, but after a while I have to reboot.

I am guessing this must be a driver or hardware problem, but I didn't have this for the last 2 weeks I'm using the Mbox.

The only change I made is connecting a pair of monitors to the monitor outs, and connecting a Motif7 to the midi in.

Are there any good documents for troubleshouting the connection to the firewire Mbox ?

Related question: if it is my built-in firewire port (can't find technical specs for it), are there any cardbus adaptors out there that Digidesign could recommend (example: Pyro 1394DV for notebooks which seems to be based on Oxford 911) ?

it's likely a power saving option which you can set on the control
panel. is your MB2Pro connected through a disk drive or directly?

Hi Jeff,

The MBox is connected directly to the notebook, no drive is daisy chained from there.

I'll check all powersaving options again.

After watching the Event logs closely, it might be related with the DigiSPTIService ?

Anyone, pretty please ?

I can work for quite some time (2 hours), and then the PC loses connection with the MBox.

It is not Protools related per sé, as it does that without PTLE loaded, so even moving to another DAW software won't help me...

Martin Walker at Sound on sound wrote an excellent article about 1394 chipsets.

OK, after a quick read, the problem is down to ... me being lazy/a smartass...

I'll get a fresh copy of XP Pro tomorrow and hope it installs without too many problems on the laptop.

I thought I knew enough about Windows (been programming for 16 years now) to be able to make MCE behave like XP Pro. Protools LE works, some issues are Intel Core Duo related, but the problem with the MBox2 Pro seems to be totally down to the core of Win MCE.

Do we have a "shame" smiley here ? We do

Oh well, let's hope other people learn from my mistake...

Thanks again for the pointer.

I now have XP Pro installed and can confirm that the MBox no longer loses connection.

However, I'm back to chasing 9092 errors again
