Using MIDI Pedal to mute channels
Hi all,
We are trying to find a way to mute specific tracks in Pro Tools everytime a midi footswitch is depressed. Basically the end goal is to use our same mics for talkback to each other while on stage. We came across the radial splitter for this purpose but dont like the idea of runnning more XLRs from every mic and taking up a bunch more channels. As it is now if we mute a track it still goes to all the sends of course which is just our inner ears and on stage monitors. Our main question is: is there a way to "Mute Channel X" when you receive MIDI command "Y". We are not opposed to funneling our midi through another program to transform it but cant find info anywhere on what midi command might do this inside pro tools -if any! Any and all help/advice is appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: Using MIDI Pedal to mute channels
If you're on Windows you might be able to do it with MIDIOx/MIDI Yoke.
Been a long time since I've messed with it so I wouldn't know how to do it.

Re: Using MIDI Pedal to mute channels
We are on Mac. The main problem is we can't seem to find a direct Midi command that would mute a specific channel in pro tools even if we did have a midi converter tool like MIDIOX.

Re: Using MIDI Pedal to mute channels
This is probably better done a different way for performing. Each "TB"mic would patch thru a foot switch and would be silent until the momentary switch is held down. These are easy to build as it just needs a suitable box, XLR in and out, and a momentary switch that is N.C.(normally closed). You connect pin 2 and pin 3 to the switch so it shorts(which kills the mic). When you hold down the switch, you break the short and the mic works(lots of live acts have these so players onstage can tell the monitor engineer what they need).
