Default Re: How do you like to use HEAT?

Just for fun, here are 3 short samples from a recent 40-50 track mix I did. Surely, we could find better mixes to use for comparison, but this is what I've got at the moment.

The first one has HEAT turned off.
The second one has HEAT turned on and with the actual settings I used during the mix.
The third one I just dialed the Drive to the opposite position to hear how that sounds. I didn't mix into this setting.

I have adjusted the samples to have the same levels approximately. The mixes are not mastered nor limited.

I'm not sure if Soundcloud will deteriorate the audio, making the comparison less enjoyable or obvious, but that's what we got.

HEAT = OFF:

HEAT = ON. Drive at 8 o'clock. Tone at 12 o'clock (off). This is the HEAT setting I used during mixing.

HEAT = ON. Drive at 5 o'clock. Tone at 12 o'clock (off):

I know this is a really old post and I don't know if things have changed.

I just tested this and HEAT *gets recorded* when printing a track. This is what I did:

1) All my drums microphones (audio tracks) end up in a stereo Aux track. So I created 2 audio tracks next to that Aux, with the same bus as the Aux as input, so I can print it twice.

2) I activated HEAT and went extreme (both knobs to the left) and started recording on the first new audio track.

3) I deactivated HEAT and started recording on the second new audio track.

With HEAT disabled, I listened to both tracks in solo mode, and the first one recorded the HEAT processing of the audio tracks from the drums. So now, if I enable HEAT again, this printed audio track gets HEAT again and it's like double processing.

So yes, if you want to print a track and don't want to double process HEAT, you need to bypass HEAT before printing. Or bypass it in the printed track.

Of course it does in the situation you describe.

I was talking about recording onto a track or tracks directly from inputs. HEAT is not recorded then.
