I just bought the BAX EQ on the 24 hour special for $29 plus taxes

Certainly better than £189 plus DSP taxes from UAD

This is a nice one for sure - picked it up last year for $49. The voucher code is in post 1207 on GS here: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/musi...l#post13847204

Please someone convince me that I need this BAX EQ, I want it but I don't know why I would need it and it looks so cheap...

Well if you want one reason, it’s not AAX-DSP

I know it’s not applicable to you, but that’s my reason for not purchasing

If you've ever needed to do a tonal tweak on a finished mix (say in mastering) the Bax is your tool. It won't do surgical and that's not it's thing. If you want to do a high freq tweak but don't want it to be harsh - Bax to the rescue. Solo piano - it's pure magic. And it doesn't mess with phasing of the signal like some eq's do (PA's Amek 2098 for instance).

Let's put it this way - it's one of two staples in my mastering chain. The other being the elysia alpha compressor.

Thanks guys, I have bx_digital and I think it's too late anyway. The demo on the website sounds fabulous but the mix is alsobgreat to start with, I'll wait to see what else this month is going to bring, any of their guitar amps will see more use here.
Daniel, I though all PIA plugs were DSP

Sadly no on the dsp part.
The bx-digital V3 is a surgical eq that just can't be beat. This is coming from a guy who is also in love with the Fabfilter Pro Q3 but for more broader stuff.

Haven't gotten my monthly voucher yet; near as I know no one has.

As to the amp sims I have Benoni to thank for turning me on to them. I had the Bassdude which has taken over duty as my bass amp sim of choice with the Amplitube B15 in second. For my high gain needs (surprisingly as well for clean tones) the VS646 Engl is my go-to. I used to swear by the Amplitube Mesa amps for high gain but compared to the VS646 they sound like they're stuffed with muffling material.

I finally ended updating my SampleTank library, so I’m out of funds. Stupid ass me had to convince myself I needed the MAX version

I wasn’t too happy with ST3. It was okay, and I was already kind of committed to getting it, but ST4 has a much better library and interface. It’s what 3 should have been.

But I’m off topic here. Just saying because I could have grabbed the SSL E & G with that money, while they were on sale, and still saved. Can’t arrange a song with a channel strip, however.

Benoni and the free player convinced me, then I got megadual and I'm ultra happy with it, metal amps often have the most glassy and beautiful clean tones. The trick with bx amps is that they model the complete signal path including external eqs etc, most of the time that works better than just a good amp sim and IRs.

I haven't gotten the voucher either

Fabfilter ProQ is a powerful beast but it's just different, it has nothing close to the mono maker of bx for example, using a high pass on the sides is not the same.
