HP Envy vs. Asus to-be-released laptops
I'm running Pro Tools 8 on a desktop, but have to get a mobile rig. I'm looking at some of the newer, inexpensive laptops instead of one of the older, certified (for PT 8) laptops. I'm not sure where to find documentation on which newer laptops would work with an old version of PT (8, in this case). So, here's the usual question:
Will either of these laptops work with my Digi 003 and PT 8? Asus laptop, release date tomorrow: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-122-_-Product HP Envy 17 (I'd upgrade the RAM): http://www.amazon.com/HP-ENVY-17-101.../dp/B003L780XS What are the specifics that I need to look for in a laptop for PT 8? I know it's something about an NVidia card, and discrete graphics, but I'm at a loss after that. |

Re: HP Envy vs. Asus to-be-released laptops
You need to consider the OS that is going to be on a new laptop
8.0.5 tops out at W7sp1. Yes, you do need a separate video subsystem and not the integrated video with the CPU

Re: HP Envy vs. Asus to-be-released laptops
My 2 cents only(and I am a PC guy); I would look for a used(like 2011/2012) MacBook Pro i7 quad with at least 8GB of RAM(and try to find one that is NOT updated to Mavericks).

+1million on what Albee said above here
PC Laptops have never been great for PT and I see issues in your future if you go with a PC laptop. Look at a refurb Mac Book Pro i7 16 GB ram and SSD drive. Chris

And if you want to stay with Windows, just install Windows.
Cheers,

Would something like this work? I don't see a firewire port.
