Default 6088 errors at low buffer settings PT8

Hello all,

I recently built a new Quad system and decided it would also be a good time to upgrade to PT8. (Win XP Pro SP3, DIGI 002R, PT 8.0cs2 detailed specs below)

I am having trouble with 6088 errors at the 64 sample buffer setting. My test session has only 16 tracks, no effects. It wil play fine if I don't do anything but as soon as I move the mouse I get a 6088 error. Recording is hit an miss, sometimes fine other times not. When I have PT open with no session CPU usage is around 20% which seems a bit high for a quad???

This is a clean install - only WinXP Pro and PT8 and whatever drivers I need for mouse, display etc.

The audio hard drive, graphic card and both firewire cards came out of my other system which was rock solid up to 7.3.1 cs5. I could easily run sessions at 64 samples on that system with Reason open - and that was a single-core AMD!

Troubleshooting steps included (all with no change):
-steps as described in general troubleshooting thread
-changing firewire cable, and port
-removing extra firewire card
-using alternate firewire card (worked a touch better, though not supported)
-removing logitech trackball and driver
-removing ATI radeon card and driver and running integrated graphics card
-uninstall and reinstall PT8
-set CPU cores lower than 4 in PT
-disabled onboard audio card

I found the thread from 'farmfresh' with similar problems on a similar system. That was solved by a BIOS update which I didn't try yet, but that was a different mobo.

here is a sandra report.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate the help!!

Tom

Default Re: 6088 errors at low buffer settings PT8

I have the same problem now with PTLE8; though I have used PTLE from 6-7.5, and now with 8, I have added 2g of ram to 3g; the only plug ins I barely use are from Digi; except for drumcore 3; and antares evo and HE. I have read through and changed the PC basxed on the digi guielines, and read many posts about this issue...any help would be appreciated, my system is:

Keefriffhard, it would be much easier to help you both if you posted your problem separately. Alot of times here at the DUC everyone is so anxious to get their problem solved that they post "Me too!" replies and it turns out that the problem and/or solution is completely different.

So please, post your issue as a separate thread. One thing I would like to point out, the Audigy (even though you say you have been using it) is known to cause problems with Pro Tools.

Timebandit,

First, check out this answerbase article.

Next...

Many times the "integrated video" can cause problems even if you have it disabled (one of the reasons why they are not recommended). I'm afraid the only solution for that would be a new motherboard.

VIA firewire controllers are also known to cause problems. I'm assuming that's the one on the motherboard? Definitely disable it.
Also, is the ADS card the one that is Qualified by Digidesign? Unless it is that specific model, I would try one of the ones from that page.

Default Re: 6088 errors at low buffer settings PT8

Thanks for the tips spk
Firewire card is the ADS Pyro as recommended by Digi.
onboard FW is also disabled, not sure if it is VIA or not
no known JMicron drivers as suggested in the answerbase article.

I didn't realize onboard video could be a problem even when not in use. I guess I'll have to look into that.

Keef...
I got the system a bit more stable by going systematically through the system services and stopping or disabling things that were not needed and set to 'automatic'. This was more than the normal tweaks I have been doing to Win XP since Pro Tools 6.1...but this is the first time I've had SP3 installed.

Now I don't get immediate errors, but still have the feeling of walking on eggshells at low buffer settings!

Thanks again for the help. I'll post back if there's significant progress sometime.

for those of you searching this or scoring at home...updating to the latest Quicktime version significantly increased stability of the system in question.

Hope that helps!
