Default Disk Utility/CCC

Hi.

Why can I only get 128 Gb from a 200 Gb disk when using Apple Disk Utility to format a FW disk? I need 133 Gb to clone my system disk, and my 200 Gb disk is too small.
I don't get it.

Older firewire enclosures may not support drives over 128 Gb.
What enclosure are you using?

Ahh, I see. The enclosure is a bit old, it could be the reason.
I didn't think of that. I'll check.

Thanks a lot.

I have a new 150 Gb SATA disk laying around - can I take out my SATA sample disk - install the new SATA - format it - and clone my system disk - then swap SATA disks again and start working?

Thanks for replying.

You know, I managed to get the system disk down to 126 Gb, so I tried to clone it to my 128 Gb disk. I started cloning, but when I came back 28 hours later, it wasn't finished. I figured this happened because my target disk was getting close to full. I aborted the cloning, and installed a new 150 Gb SATA disk.

I've formatted it, and started cloning the system disk again. We'll see how it goes this time.

I guess it's better to have some overhead on the system backup disk too, right?

It is always best to have 10% of a drive's available capacity free.

Cloning to the 2nd internal SATA went smooth. And "hitshack" - you were right. The enclosure supports no more than 128 Gb.
I'm now enjoying 7.2.

Thanks to all.
