Pro Tools 12.6.1 taking a long time to open [solved]
Running Pro Tools HD on a 2012 Mac Pro, OSX 10.9.5 and have been using 12.4.0 since it was released. It's been mostly rock solid and opening the application never took more than a couple seconds. I installed 12.6.1 over it last night and now the Pro Tools icon just bounces up and down for 30 seconds before finally launching, scanning plugins etc.
Tried trashing preferences, restarting and reinstalling to no avail. Any ideas what could be causing this? |

could this be a Plugin issue .. something is not up to date ?? something else you can do is to stop Avid Application Manager from Launching at startup .. might help MacHD / library / launch agents / toss the avid application manager file .. cheers john

Re: Pro Tools 12.6.1 taking a long time to open
Pace, Boot Drive % used, Plug-in's and more
Just launched stopwatch and Pro Tools HD(x)12.6.1 with 250+ updated plug-ins and it took 45 seconds. So there is hope. OS 10.12.1, 2010 Mac Pro One new thing I did for the 12.6.1 install was to empty out all AAX plugs (to their own folder) Sync App Manager then install the HD Driver from App Manager. No using the HD Driver download from my account! then restart. Launch Pro Tools to finish installing...close>Add back all my plug-ins skipping the stock plugs. Launch App Manager re-sync to check all is up to date. (Should be)>Clear all caches from App Manager. then Uninstall app manage (Keep the uninstaller)

Re: Pro Tools 12.6.1 taking a long time to open
I appreciate the suggestions guys. Didn't realize I could install multiple versions on the same system. Might just end up reinstalling 12.4 alongside 12.6.
But I tried emptying out the AAX plugin folder and stopping the App Manager from loading on boot and that didn't solve it. So I went ahead and performed a full manual uninstall and reinstall of 12.6 but the result was the same. Makes me wonder if it's an OSX issue? Alas, at least it does eventually load. Once again I greatly appreciate the suggestions. Best, -Patrick |

Re: Pro Tools 12.6.1 taking a long time to open
Problem solved. Apparently the new 12.6.1 HD driver only supports Yosemite 10.10 and up, I'm on 10.9. So I uninstalled it and installed the 12.6.0 legacy HD Driver and now Pro Tools is launching in under 10 seconds.
Thanks again for helping me troubleshoot. -Patrick |

Those of you in the Mac world are not alone. Experiencing the same or very similar problems on Windows 10
