Default No Sound - Mbox 2 - new drivers

I recently updated to PT 9.0.3 with the 8.0.4.354 Mbox2 driver. All sessions were working; I was getting sound. I updated to the new Mbox family of drivers and my sessions would play but I would not get any sound. I've reverted to PT 9.0.2 and the 8.0.4.354 drivers and everything is fine.

Anyone else having this problem? Is it possible that the driver was corrupted on download?

Bump. I find it funny that people responded to Cavalerra about his problem, which sounds similar to mine, and I provided the necessary information.

Can you just clarify one thing for me, when you say you treated the driver to "the new family of mbox drivers"...do you mean you installed the drivers for the mbox 3? If I read that correctly then I'd imagine that's your problem as they're completely different interfaces and you can't just swap the driver. You'd need to use the specific "mbox2" driver.

Remis, thanks for replying. Let me clarify. I updated the Mbox2 drivers and had this problem.

Ah ok, thanks for clarifying. I had a similar issue with my Mbox2 Pro...strangely I found that there was one certain session I needed to open in order to get the sound to engage. I'm not sure whether it had something to do with clock settings or anything now that PT is seperate from the interface...but for me that seemed to work. If I opened that one session I would hear a slight pop as if the mbox had kicked into life, yet if I opened any other session I had the same issue as you...the session would play and the meters were jumpin' but I'd have no sound...I tried asking about this on here to see if DTS or someone from Avid would have any ideas, but got no response.

Hope you find a solution Harry.

Remis thanks, what did you end up doing? Did opening that one session fix the problem for all of your sessions that lost sound?

Also, it seems like the problem is related to the new drivers and not PT 9.0.3. I upgraded again to PT 9.0.3 without upgrading to the new drivers and I don't have the problem. Although, I'm starting to have more -6085 errors now with 9.0.3. I've changed the usb connection to every other usb connection on the computer without success on that one.The clock is still set to internal and the sample rate is 44.1kHz.

I will try upgrading to the new drivers later after I finish some sessions and see what happens. Maybe, that will fix the -6085 errors. If not, it's back to PT 9.0.2 with the old drivers for now.

For me, if I opened that one session that gave me sound I could then close it and open up any other session and the sound worked fine...it seemed like it just needed something from that session that made it jump to life. Only reason I brought up the clock settings is because that session was at 48kHz and was an older session, where as most of my new sessions are 44.1kHz...just the way my new interface (Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56) deals with clock settings made me curious as to if this may have had some effect...but again I have no idea what caused it, and it seemed at the time no one on here had any ideas either.

But yeah, if I opened that one session that egnaged the sound I was then free to open any session I wanted and it would work fine.

Just to be clear, my mbox 2 was the pro model that ran via firewire. Also, as a check, have you applied the optimizations suggested by Avid for Windows 7 users? Specifically the ones relating to USB power settings? Not sure if this would cause something like this...but I suppose anything's possible.

If not, the optimizations can be found here.

I definitely went through the optimization guide and everything is set as explained there.

I will have to check the session sample rate and see if that might be the problem. I usually run the sessions at 44.1 but I seem to remember that after upgrading to PT 9 some of the new sessions defaulted to 48. uhmmmmm.

Once again, thanks for your help.

Smile Re: No Sound - Mbox 2 - new drivers

Update: upgraded the Mbox 2 drivers with the 9.0.2.65 version and was still getting -6085 errors. So, I moved my USB connection from the 3.0 usb connection on the MB to the 2.0 usb connection for the Mbox2. Now the -6085 errors are gone... I haven't found any information saying NOT to use the 3.0 usb connections for the Mbox2. However, that may have been the problem. It would seem like a faster connection would be better but maybe it's not in this case.

With that said, the ghost in my machine has left the premises, at least for the moment.
